Has anyone made a whole quilt out of feedsack fabric? I have a little collection of squares and some whole feedsacks. I was just thinking maybe since the fabric is so loosely woven maybe it would be better to alternate squares with some modern quilting cotton. Any thoughts, anyone? I appreciate your comments.

My DGM made quilts from feed sacks when I was a little girl. They are still in good shape and used by family members today. Too bad one of them didn't come my way.

I've been collecting authentic feedsacks .. I just love them.. I hope to make a quilt with nothing but feedsack fabrics but I haven't found the perfect pattern yet..

Do you have feed sacks or flour sacks? They are usually not loosely woven. There were hundreds of quilts made with flour sacks and feed sacks and many still alive today. I have some.

My mother used to make quilts all the time. Also my dresses too.

I have some that I am waiting to find the perfect pattern for.

I would make the whole quilt out of the feedsacks. If you mix in newer fabrics, not only will they "look" mixed...they will wear at different rates.

I 'love' feed/flour sacks. I made a quilt of them
except for the backing of muslin. Each block is a different print. My mother hand quilted it, & I think it is a great quilt. |
