Final count 206 AND I'M DONE!

By morning, my final tissue cover count will be 206.

AND I'M QUITING! I don't care how cute the next scraps I see are!

So far, all have been scraps-------------ones that have no value anywhere else. I've spent money on thread and on Tylenol and aspirin for my back. Oh, and I did buy about $12.50 worth of tissues-----------for a very limited number of covers.

Did I mention I'm not making any more?????? NONE!

Well, unless......................

QuiltE 10-19-2012 05:38 PM

Whatever are you going to do with so many?

So far I've given away probably 25. I sold about 10. I need about 25 for my club for Christmas. I've got 26 (with tissues) going to a benefit. OUr sister church has a "cookie walk" and a chance auction so some will go there.

That still leaves about a hundred. I don't do craft sales, but a friend does. I may see if she wants to sell some----------for half the proceeds.

Not that I need any new distractions, but these have been fun.

I would say you are ready for the next flu epidemic!! That is one thing I haven't made just yet.

Do yourself a favor and DON'T. Or you'll be on here posting about the 10 dozen you did. lol

Tashana 10-19-2012 08:24 PM

I made a dozen in a breeze a few nights ago when I was tired of ripping a Bargello I screwed up royally. These cute little tissue covers are great for people like me who need instant gratification.

And the instant gratification is probably why I've enjoyed them so much.

WE've got an abused women's shelter not far from here, and tissue covers are not one of the requested items, but I know for sure these ladies would love something personal while they try to get back to normal. $20-30 worth of tissues to fill them won't be much to bring a bit of comfort to the gals.

Katie 10-20-2012 02:22 AM

Thanks so much for the idea. When you posted about them before I got out some scraps and sewed one up. They were so fast and cute I was hooked. I made some to put into stockings and one for each of the girls at the office for Christmas. Thanks again.

jcrow 10-20-2012 02:51 AM

I read your first post about making them but haven't yet. I need to. They seem like something fun and easy to do. I am thanking you for sharing with all of us you easy way of making them. Usually I don't go for craftsy ideas because they have so many steps involved, but not yours. I will try and make a few today so I get the hang of it. It would be a perfect gift "just" to give someone.

QuiltnNan 10-20-2012 04:15 AM

wow, you were inspired!

ArtsyOne 10-20-2012 04:53 AM

Good for you! I made 6 after your original posting and plan to make more for stocking stuffers this year. I added the suggestion of another poster and boxed the ends. They are so much fun to make and really made me feel productive when I was procrastinating on a larger project.

lillybeck 10-20-2012 07:15 AM

I made 60 of these for our Christmas boxes at church. I made them last year for our church members

And you're just going to quit there? LOL, I swear, I'm not making more!

LadyElisabeth 10-20-2012 09:29 AM

Unless they ALL sell and then you will need one for yourself :)

Treasureit 10-20-2012 09:37 AM

It is all your fault! You got me making them too...but not that many!!!!! I just did 7 one day for about an hour or so...it was fun! Made a little assembly line and whipped them out. I think I will make some more when I get the urge again...great to give to so many different people at Christmas.

BrendaK 10-20-2012 10:00 AM

OK, now you all have my attention. Is there a pattern available for free? Where can I see samples? Man, all I need is one more project. Thanks Look forward to seeing if I can make these. BrendaK

Yep, a still photo tute is here on the net---------but I'm not good at finding stuff. SOMEBODY, point the way!

I've increase the sizes of the lining to 6" x 9" and the outer shell to 6" x 7". The tissue packets are a bit loose in this size, but the center doesn't gap open. (don't panic-----------the measurements are right. You'll see.)

GrannieAnnie 10-20-2012 11:16 AM

Thanks for the size update. I have bundles of odd sized pieces, I'm doomed now. lol

Should we start a QB running total?????????? How many people in the USofA? WE've got a good start on a tissue cover for each one.

Donna in Mo 10-21-2012 05:56 AM

Where can I find the pattern? Sorry I see it was already posted! Thank you!

Just a reminder--------10 days from now when you are buried under a few dozen tissue covers-----------DON'T BLAME ME. Blame the original pattern poster.

BTW, I'm more than willing to give up my temporary "tissue cover queen" claim. Anyone wanting to go for 21 0-------------HELP YOURSELF!

damaquilts 10-21-2012 06:19 AM

Ok I just looked. I may make one ... For me..

LUANNH 10-21-2012 06:47 AM

Ok I'm going to make one for me and maybe one for my sister to go with her new quilt I'm making her for xmas. Oh and a couple for a few friends, guess they are addicting LOL

QuiltinPeg 10-21-2012 10:27 AM

They are, quick and easy. I got 50+ done this week for a bazaar table for our quilt guild.
I am starting phone sleeves next, just a little more complicated. Ten days to go, we'll see how many are finished by then. It is nice using scraps of fabric and batting to open space for new stash.

Pat1969 10-21-2012 11:52 AM

At some point in this thread (or another one about this same subject) there was a question about the pattern size. The original pattern that I printed out said to cut the biggest piece 7-1/2" high. Then there was a response from someone that the tissue cover turned out too small. Then someone else said it should be 8-1/2" high instead. To you all that have been making so many of these - what is the correct size?
I have been making some of these from another pattern and I really like this pattern better, but have not made any yet.
Thank you,, Pat

I got on the kick of making these recently but wondered something. Do people actually use them? Carry them in their purses? Frankly, I don't carry a huge purse so one wouldn't fit in mine.

I did find that when my opening gapped more than I wanted, I overlapped the ends of the opening just a bit & I was happy with that.

You must be seeing these things in your sleep after making so many.

Yarn or Fabric 10-21-2012 01:21 PM

Wow. That's a lot of tissue covers and one way to kick out a bunch of scraps... I don't think I'd want to make any more for a long time that's for sure :D

DebbieG 10-21-2012 02:04 PM

Okay, now ya got me started, I just sewed up 6 for our Welcome Bags at Church, they are addicting!!!

nstitches4u 10-21-2012 04:08 PM

We'll see how many more you make tomorrow. lol

lpsewing 10-21-2012 07:11 PM

I was reading this & thought please let someone else be like me who never seen the first post & request the pattern

I've never made any of the tissue holders but you've got me thinking I need to do so. And I thought I was going to clean house in the morning. LOL

I've been making these for my friend's daughter to raise for funds for their dancing school. I use the size in the original post 5 1/2 x 6 1/2 and 5 1/2 x 7 1/2.
I had templates made by a sign writer for a couple of pounds so I can tell very easily whether or not a scrap is going to fit and speeds up cutting immensely.
The tissues I use are packs of 10 from our Poundshop (Dollar store - which of course here, is $1.60, lol). The tartan holder has tissues in it.

Addictive exercise! I ran up 3 dozen a couple of years ago when my girls turned 21 as party favours for all the ladies. They were loads of fun to make and much appreciated by the recipients.
