Finally Finished!

We have had 2 coworkers diagnosed with ALS in the past year. I have finally finished the first of the 2 quilts. It has taken a long time. Partly because of machine issues and partly because of other events (2 wedding gift quilts and a baby quilt). But, it also made me sad. I used one of my favorite patterns for men. And, I tweaked the block proportions to make it into a signature quilt. Some of my coworkers didn't know what to write since ALS is terminal. So, we decided that movie quotes from his favorite movies might be a good idea. I made it an oversized twin size to make sure it would fit the hospital bed well.

What a thoughtful (and very cool) idea! I love the quilt design and the fabrics you chose.

very nicely done... ALS is such a cruel affliction... your mind still works but your body does not cooperate.

I am sure that he will get a lot of support from your gift. Great job and male appropiate without being to rugged. Hopefully he can loose himself in reading the quotes and remembering the movies etc.

What a VERY thoughtful thing to do. Of course it made you sad to think of his future. Surely this gift of love will warm his body and heart.

This is a beautiful quilt! What is the pattern called? I would love to use it for an anniversary gift for my husband. I am sure your coworker will love it, and appreciate the sentiments behind it! Well done!

Very pretty quilt and quilting. I really like the look of your machine sewn binding. It adds interest to your quilt.

I think the pattern was called Shoji Screen. But, I'm not positive. Really, it is a rail fence variation. Here is a picture of another one I recently made where all the strips are the same width and the blocks are square.

There are 2 strip sets, light-dark-light and dark-light-dark.
Then the lay out is:
Row 1 - all d-l-d, then alternate vertical- horizontal - vertical etc..
Row 2 - all l-d-l, again alternate but the opposite, horizontal - vertical - horizontal etc..
Etc

Thank you everyone. He is a wonderful man, young, married, several young children (being vague to protect his privacy). It is devastating. I am hoping the quilt will be a comfort to his family as well.
