Can anyone please give me directions on finishing of the binding? By this I really mean "how to sew the two ends together" on the bias as you finish applying the binding to the front of the quilt. Thank you.

Joan

Go to victorianaquiltdesigns.net
Finishing your quilt
Finishing Edges
Ending Double Fold Binding

Print it- with the pictures. I need it every time I finish a quilt!

It really works, too.

OK, here is what I do....

leave about 8 inches loose before you start stitching the binding on and stop within about 8 inches from where the ends will overlap...

Then, overlap the ends the same amount as the original width you cut the binding..and cut.

ex. if you cut your binding 2 inches wide and folded it in half, then over lap the ends by 2 inches.

Then align the ends at a right angle to each other with right sides together so that you can sew a diagonal seam across the ends.
Finger press the seam open and straighten out. It should lay exactly in place. If it does, you can go back and trim the seam to 1/4 inch and finish stitching down the binding.

As many times as I have done this, it always comes out right, but I always check it before trimming.. Dont you know that the one time I trim before checking it will be wrong..lol. So, I dont take the chance...

Hope this helps..

I can hardly wait to try this.

I get a decent connection, but your method sounds very efficient and goof proof.

Hi Joan,

When i did my first ever binding, I used Youtube videos a lot. I watched them tim and time again, found the ones I liked the most (one for mitred corners, one for finishing the binding) and then had my laptop next to me with the video runnin, so I could follow what they were doing as I was doing it myself, pausing whenevr I needed to.

This is the video I used for joing the binding ends:

Good luck!

Our very own Shelly posted these instructions a while back. This method is the best that I have found. I never knew what to do witht he ends either. Maybe this will help you.
