I'm putting bindings on ALL the potholders I made yesterday (from panel squares). I thought I'd at least shorten things up by doing that fold over binding finish... but jeepers!!!--I can't get it to lay right on the back--so I'm back to making the 1/2" overlap and sewing so it's smooth. I have 5/15 done... and I have to go get two loads of hay.... I'll check as soon as I get back to see if anyone can tell me what secret I'm missing... to save a little time from finishing them all the longer way. :?

Make sure your edges of pot holder are squared up.
I like to use Steam a Seam to hold the back of binding in place before I stitch it down.

lol, I don't have a tip but as I was reading " I'll check when I get back to see"..... I thought you were going to say "to see if anyone did it while I was gone"! That's the way I drop hints at my house. Hope you figured it out by now.

Karla....today I watched America Quilts and they showed this pressure sensitive stuff like stichery witchery that had paper you had to peal off.....comes in different widths....put this on the binding and pressed the pieces together then ironed together and then you were done or you could sew them just for extra measure....sure looked like a grand idea.....they put it on placemats....just sharing what I saw... :D

check out the above thread on this board. It's a really cute hot mat and easy to make too! It is too late for your project I know, but for anyone interested in making easy hot pads that require NO binding, this is a great pattern. I taught a number of ladies to make these at our Church Craft Day. They were so excited - some had never even used a sewing machine in the past! I also made them for Christmas gifts, if I remember right 2 fat quarters will make a set of 2. So, I was able to get just the right fabric for each person without a lot of expense or waste.
