Mine are older - so I can't offer you any advice about the new ones - but I sure do like having them -

I don't do a heck of a lot serging so I bought the Juno 3434 by Janome at Hancock for $179. I like it just fine.

One can hem t-shirts with them - apply elastic to waistbands and leg openings, at least the first stitching - do rolled hems - need to change the presser foot to do those things - and settings

depends on the model and attachments - and the operator!

I mostly use mine for finishing edges and seams

I made a fleece jacket with mine. I have a Pfaff and I really love it. I'm wanting to learn how to do rolled hems for table cloths.

I have an older one, but the newer ones that thread easier look nice. I would try out several before you buy. Also, Sewing with Nancy (PBS show) did a series recently on serging. You may want to check out her website for some great books with projects.

Thanks for all the in-put. I will take the advice of checking out many different models.

I have researched some, and I really like the ones that have the self threading feature. Also with atleast a 4 spool capacity.
