I have a piece of white flannel (about 2 1/2 yds.) that has been laying around a few years. I washed and dried it twice so it would shrink. I am thinking about using it for batting in a baby quilt. Is that a good idea? If so, should I use one layer or double it? What would be the best way to baste it? Spray? How close would I need to quilt it or would it be best to tie it? Sorry for so many questions but if I do it I would want to do it right. Thanks for your help. You ladies know so much you save me from many mistakes. I think this board is wonderful.

i don't see a reason not to use it. personally, i would only use it as a single layer. it could be quilted or tied since it is a piece of cloth and not batting. be sure to post the final quilt... we love looking :-)

flannel is used for batting regularly...the only real (advised requirement) you have done= pre=-wash
single layer- you can put it together how ever you want- they work well for tied- you can quilt them any way you want without worrying about density- with some batts if you don't quilt it enough it will come apart- bunch up= make a mess of a quilt- flannel will not do this- you can quilt it lots- you can quilt it a little= you can use it any way you want- and use what ever technique of basting you like- spray-pin-thread= everything works- just smooth it= do not stretch it.

You could even use it as both backing and batting - it would be soft...

I would measure it, and wash it one more time to make sure it's still not shrinking.
