Flannel used with regular cotton?
 

Has anyone tried to combine both cotton and cotton flannel in one quilt? We want to make a T-shirt quilt and we have three yards of the color for the school colors but it is flannel. Not enough for the whole quilt. Your comments will be appreciated.

I'm not usually a pre-washer, but in this case, I think I would wash all the fabrics separated according to whether they are cotton or flannel. I think I would probably wash in hot water, especially the flannel since it tends to shrink more. I'd also throw in a couple of color catchers with each load.

I would use a stablizer with the flannel

I'm not a pre-washer either, but in the case of flannel, I'd wash the heck out of it, 'cause it shrinks and bleeds.

i make lots of cotton with flanne quilts- they are wonderful quilts- i make lots of quilts- i use many different fibers===wool, cotton, silk, velvet, corduroy, denim...and yes- i even put them all together sometimes- the key is to pre-wash and make sure your fabrics will play nice together. my wool applique quilt is felted wool appliques on a fabulous double sided Benartex flannel-
it washes up wonderfully...flannels tend to (generally) shrink the most- because they have a looser weave than the cottons you are used to using- but beyond that- they generally go together very well

I have made several mixed cotton/flannel but I do wash and dry the flannel about 3 times before using it. I don't use a stabilizer.

Use the stabilizer on the Tshirts. You won't need it on the flannel. Be sure to use a ball-point needle on the Tshirts.

I agree. I've used cotton and flannel on baby things and cotton with t-shirts on a quilt. No problem ( I always pre-wash) as long as you stabilize that t-shirt fabric!
