You know the flour sack towels? (looks like a big cotten diaper) I can get them here BLANK, but now can you buy it by the yard?
|
Different stores carry different things, if you don't see it I suggest that you ask, sometime they can order it in for you, though they usually want you to buy a bunch not just a yard or two when they do that.

Dharma Trading sells them in a 36x40 size which would be the same as getting a yard of quilting fabric. That size is 30.95 for 12, or 2.58 each. http://www.dharmatrading.com/products/fst.html Be sure to read the comments as they mention the lack of uniformity in size and quality of these towels.

Wal-Mart is usually reasonably priced, if it has fabric you can even check there. they used to carry it but they have changed what they carry even. Being in Canada I don't have quiet the same stores to shop at.
|
Herrschners.com has them in different sizes. A few weeks ago I was looking at Samsclub.com and they sell flour sack towels on line and at Sams Club stores. I don't know the quality as I have not seen them in person but they were reasonably priced.

Newark Dressmaker Supply has towels, they are very large, and they are nice and heavy, the website doesn't list the size but if your interested let

I saw it by the yard and I think it was at the Dutchman's store in Cantril Iowa. I would have to check but I think that is it. We (my friend Dorothy and I) talked about buying it that way and decided to wait.
Next time I go I will check on it for you Bev and anyone else who wants it. |

I've bought mine at Herrschners for years. My GM used to also, and she alway's embroidered hers. We just use them to dry dishes and when torn and tattered, they make great dust rags.
|
thanks so much everyone for all your help.. I appreciate it tons :D
|
I was just at Sams Club. They have them there to. Ten pack but i forgot the price.
|
I googled flour sack fabric and found this website www.americanchairstore.com They sell packages of ten, 28" x 29" for $12.50, 30" X 30" for $16. Made in the USA. |

I get them at Wal-Mart also.. same price.. I like them because they're not too thick and dry quickly.. but I think the quality has gone downhill a bit.. they're almost too thin now. Makes them a little bit harder to embroidery.. 'course I didn't wash them before ironing on the design, so I'll have to wait and see.

I have been getting mine, 30x30, at Atwoods. This is a farm and ranch store in our area of Texas ansd Oklahoma. I know a friend , or maybe I should say second hand relative, that buys it by the bolt. I haven't been able to track down her Phone number but will post the info here when I get it. The ones I buy at Atwoods are 1.99 each. Sometimes I can pick them up foe .99 when on sale. The bin is getting low and I fear they may not stock them again. I do pick through them to get square ones as some have wonky corners.
|
I bought some from Sam's club once (they were big pcs). If your store carries them they would be at the restaurant supply section.
