FMQ, seeing inspiration everywhere
We went to dinner on Monday, to a Celtic pub. I may have embarrassed DH a little by taking a photo of the menu. No, I wasn't going to post it on UrbanSpoon, or whatever. The Celtic Knot looked like something I might be able to FMQ....
Then there were the 2 pictures I took at the veterinarian... I am a little ashamed to say, I never saw any of this before I read one of Karen McTavish's books. She said you should be able to find it everywhere. She's right. Where are other people finding non-traditional inspiration? |
i've been looking at floors for over 40 yrs now.
Yes, I see ideas in floors too!
Floors for sure. I have lots of pictures.
Know what you mean...my granddaughters year book cover, a travel bag fabric, design on the lampshade, etc!!
I keep a little sketch book in my purse for capturing patterns. The very popular Labyrinth Walk pattern is from a floor mosaic. Ami Simms devoted a whole book to Roman mosaics in 1991. Classic Quilts: Patchwork Designs from Ancient Rome.
I just step outside into my church of nature and look around. If I see something of interest I take a photo with my camera phone. May be some one or some thing.
One time we were out of town with our son at a soccer tournament. I 'had' to run back in..supposedly to get something I forgot. What did I forget? To take a picture of the wall of the elevator! GREAT freemotion idea! lolol
I just got back from NYC and have 187 pics on my iphone! Mostly of ideas for quilting I got from architecture. Inspiration is everywhere!
I was in Italy a couple of years ago....went into instant sensory overload the minute we stepped off the plane and into the airport, and it was downhill from there! I have never been so overwhelmed with design choices - everywhere - as I was, there! And we won't even go into what the Sistine Chapel did to me....:)
