Framing a quilt block
I have a miniature quilt and some quilt blocks that I am wanting to frame. I am not sure how to finish the edges of the block before I frame it. My idea was to stitch it with large primitive looking "X"s to a piece of tea dye muslin before framing it. However, not sure what to do with the edges first and don't want the muslin to appear to be another border.
Also interested in any other ideas of ways to use these for decoration on the wall preferably. TIA |
I think I would find a frame at the Dollar store that would fit my block with a mat. I would cut the mat in a non colour like white or black and put it over the blocks edge and frame. You can find some nice mat material in the scrap booking supplies at Walmart? A shadow box frame might be another option. I love shadow box frames because they enough room that you can add buttons or bling. you could also use your original idea and put your block into an wooden embroidery hoop for hanging?

I'd probably turn the raw edges under and either 1) stitch them; 2) glue them down; 3) just leave them ironed and then go from there. Depends on whether you want them 'museum quality' or not.
