I just read this on a thread. "It was all done freehand and with rulers"! Is this long arm terminoligy? Can someone explain it to me. How does one "quilt with rulers" ???? thanks in advance!

there are special rulers that you can use with your longarm quilting machine

Yes long arm work--and they have rulers and templates to sew around. I have yet to try it though.

Free hand is quilting with no pattern to trace or follow. You can use all kinds of rulers to quilt with. You butt the ruler against the foot and it keeps you straight or you can follow for a circle, heart, curve, etc... Then you also have pantographs to follow with a light, groovy boards to put the stylus in and follow, as well as those people who are lucky enough to have computerized machines.
