Try watching videos. You can just watch while they sew. No need to hear.

Once I learned how to echo a design or pattern it became so much easier. Start by making a tear drop or whatever and echoing it over and over again by letting your foot trace the original stitch thus guiding the next. That was a big lightbulb moment for me.

Just wanted to say that my machine has a lever you can move to slow the machine down, so this should help. I also brought a book from JoAnn's. "Free Motion Machine Quilting" by Don Linn, so between all the boards advice and this book, that should leave just "needed" experience.
