Free motion quilting on Viking #1+

Hi All,

I'm doing my first free motion quilting project on my Viking #1+. Is there any who can tell me what settings need to be changed? Tried on scraps and don't have something right.

Thanks,
Melisa

You need to drop feed dogs, put machine on straight stitch at 0. Did the 1+ have a setting for presser foot height? I know you can set pressure. I think you used the hopping darning foot. You should also hoop, or do something to grab the fabric if you don't have an extended table. You can get that new sliding teflon sheet for fabric. I had a 1+ and never did FMQ, but what I remember from the machine - the method for the Pfaff 1475 series is close.

what exactly is 'not right?'
drop feed dogs- use a hopping (darning/ free motion) foot.
practice, practice, practice on a small 'practice sandwich' until you get the hang of moving the fabric at the same speed you are stitching.
often it helps to use the same thread top & bobbin- make sure you have a new (correct size) needle- that corresponds with the thread being used- without knowing what it is that's not right- it's hard to tell you how to fix it.

Is a designer 1+ the same as a designer 1? I have designer 1, on that machine you drop the feed dogs, use the "v" menu and use the darning foot that came from the machine or you can use a hopping foot. Then it's just practice, practice. Don't move the fabric too quickly around corners or you get loops on the back. I use gloves that have bumps on them to help hold the fabric. I don't have to change the switch length, pressure, or tension, the "v" setting does that all for me. Hope this helps.

Designer One the newer version of 1+ . Also has drop in bobbin.

The 1+ also does pictograms, which means it has pieces and parts of designs you can embroider without a hoop.
I made Holly and Candles. It's a lifesaver.

If you have a Viking dealer, go look in the Viking books. Someone put out a very good book on how to use all Viking feet. I had it and sold it with my 1+. It's sold by Country Stitches. You can take a peek in the book if they have it.

I don't know about the settings but I do know there is a yahoo group just for your machine. You might check there I'm sure someone could help.

No, the 1+ was is an older machine and still said to be one of the best machines that Viking has ever made. Most users when getting a newer model keep their 1+.

I have a Huskavarna Viking 1, 1200. I want to free motion quilt. I have dropped the feed dogs, and I have the clear snap on or "floating foot" snapped on. I cannot move the fabric. There has to be another setting but I cannot figure it out. Suggestions?

Use the darning foot. It should have a little arm that attaches on the needle bar.
