I put freezer paper on back of my honey bee block to stabilize it while I machine appliqued the wings and it worked great, except I had a hard time getting it off afterward. I didn't want to pull out the stitches so there are little bits stuck in them. Any suggestions??

Well Mary, when I've been taking the paper off from paper pieced blocks, sometimes I spray it with water to soften it up. I have also resorted to tweezers too! LOL But if it's just tiny bits stuck in there, I have just left them in. They never seemed to hurt anything.

carefully trace the stitching with the sharp end of a seam ripper - either right over the stitching or reeeeeeeeeeeelly close - to un-do the perforation from the stitches. then gently lift the freezer paper gently away from the stitching. just remember to trace - not gouge - so you don't disturb or accidently break the stitches. works every time. :-)

Thanks Sue and Patrice for your help. My stitches were a loose zig zag, so it was difficult, I did cut some stitches. I spritzed with water, cut where I could with seam ripper, and used tweezers. It took me a couple of hours, but I did it.
I couldn't do what you suggested Patrice because the zig zags were closed on the one side and straight stitches on the other. I will keep that in mind for the next time though. Using the freezer paper would have worked really good if I had done a satin stitch. Oh well every mistake is a learning situation. Thanks again, Mary |
I used kids washable glue stick down the middle top hold in place before I stitched
