after 3 years of free motion quilting my world has turned topsy turvy!!
I am finishing a baby quilt and was going to free motion the corners around an appliqued area. I can only go 10 stitches without the thread shredding and breaking. I am using a polyester batting for a puffier look. I usually use warm and natural. I have completed all the stitching in the ditch area with no problems but NOW!!
Here are some of the things I tried to fix problem
cleaned machine, changed thread , changed needle, changed tension and foot pressure.
My machine is a husquavarna lily 545
Help---- if anybody has any further suggestions it sure would be a blessing

That happened to me and the only thing I could figure out was that the thread was bad, so I changed spools and no more problem. :) The spool was about 1/2 used. No explanation, only results, so who knows. :?:

ty I will try that--anything is worth trying! I noticed I posted this in recipes maybe thats where my reall problem comes from sewing with the Stove?

I'm sure it's been a long weekend for you, so that's ok. I didn't notice it was recipes when I clicked on your message, either.

Do you have your feed dogs down? I have the 540 & sometimes I put the thread in a mug and sit it at the back of the machine & it helps. (unless of course if you have one of those thread/cone holders you can just use it.)

I just read a hint on a quilting website that said if the thread is breaking, to turn the spool around so that the thread is coming off the spool in the opposite direction. One way it comes off smoother and more straight than the other.

i had this same problem with a particular type of thread that my machine obviously does not like. It seemed that I was too newbie to know that some thread comes off the spool when it is horizontal and some comes off vertically. I solved the problem with a vertical spool holder.

If that doesn't work, I think I would take my machine, quilt and thread and go to your dealer and let them see it happen to correct the problem.

Good luck...this problem is soooooo frustrating.

I'm not at all mechanical (or experiences enough to comment on thread types or needle sizes, etc. )so I'm just sending a big hug and sympathy plus hope that your problem will be resolved soon....
