I posted about having my antique Singer that we found at an antique mall refurbished but that came back to me not working. The seller had serious health issues so I asked for some ideas on what to do.

Well yesterday my DH got tired of looking at the machine and cabinet just sitting there and decided to try and repair it himself. As amazing as it seems to me, he did a great job and now the little guy purrs like a kitten. Wires were totally disconnected on the machine so he had to rewire and put connectors on them. I insisted he be the first one to turn it on since he's not really handy with electrical devices but he did a great job on this one. :D

Hey, keep him, when he is willing to selvage a machine by rewiring, etc. He would get his favorite dessert once a week for a month. This really works, even though I had to bake an apple pie a week for a month when mine fixed my machine.

sandpat 11-05-2010 05:15 AM

Good for you, the machine and your DH! Give him lots of huggies and tell him how proud you are of him...sounds like a keeper!

TexasSunshine 11-05-2010 06:00 AM

My DH can fix anything also or at least trys to see how it works (or doesn't). He will tackle anything.

Oh those wonderful men on our lives, just when we think they can't they CAN and DO something great. Guess we should keep them. ;)

I giggled about your insisting your husband try it first "since he's not really handy with electrical devices." Isn't it funny how we'd jump in front of a truck to save our men but they're on their own with electricity?

ktmo815 11-05-2010 03:39 PM

did you ever get your money back?

galvestonangel 11-05-2010 07:53 PM

I still hope you filed a complaint and got your money back.

Sometimes husbands are nice to have around

madamekelly 11-05-2010 09:03 PM

Yay! We just love DH's that are handy!

mimiof3 11-06-2010 03:51 AM

Great news. Hooray for DH.

fktsewing 11-06-2010 05:42 AM

I am so glad you got the machine up and running---give your DH a big hug. I still feel you should contact the person(s) who supposedly "fixed" your machine and let them know how unhappy you were and you won't be returning. The owner may not have any idea what his son did and how it can hurt his business. You will be helping him as well as yourself.
Be nice but firm about it.

mountain deb 11-06-2010 08:37 AM

I would also check out the inside to see how "clean" it is. One old machine I had, I turned over and took the bottim off of it (suitcase style). There was a casing there, being the curious type, I took it off. The seal fell apart and the grease inside was thick and old enough I think Noah used it. I used automotive engine degreaser to clean it and then packed it with grease again automotive type. Also bought automotive cork and cut my own seal. Sews real quiet, now to figure out how to set the timing....it catches the needle at times.

inletjerry 11-06-2010 09:21 AM

Good for DH, give him lots of praise!!!

Annz 11-06-2010 06:58 PM

Oh that is a lovely ending to a bad sewing experince.

Dee 11-06-2010 09:23 PM

Great news. So happy for you. Good job DH.
