Fusible Laser Cut Kits
 

Has anyone ever bought a laser cut kit? If so I was just wondering how you liked it.
They seem spendy, but maybe not having to trace, cut and fuse all the pieces is worth a few extra dollars.
That saves several hours of time!

My BFF bought the Baltimore Christmas one and it is fabulous! She put together three blocks in no time! Here's the BOM she got hers from:

I just ordered a BOM from Main Street Cotton Shop a month ago before I banned myself from online shopping. I wanted to give it a try. The quilt is magnificent and I know I would never do all that cutting, but want to make that quilt. It's all applique. I think it's $39 a month. Not too spendy. Maybe it's more than that. I can't remember. I put it on my husband's debit card, that's why I don't remember how much it's going to cost. He'll remind me every single month. Believe me! At first he'll be upset that I did it without mentioning it to him (shame on me, I'm a chicken) but after I make the first block, he will be fine with the money coming out each month (I hope, oh please oh please). No, he's pretty good about things, but he likes to know about it first and sometimes I get a little sneaky and then chicken out and don't tell him until he sees the statement. I need to stop sneaking around. He doesn't care as long as he's aware of what is coming out of our account. See, I'm chicken to tell him that for a year $39 is coming out of HIS account. We each have our own account and I pay bills and have things coming out of mine, so I put it on his. I am leaving today for Texas. I will write a note and tell him about the money coming out. That's the chicken way to do it. He never gets mad. He just lectures me. My niece says he should record the lecture because it's the same lecture and hand me the recording and tell me to push play and then he can leave the room and I can sit and listen to the lecture. I think she has something there.

Love them, they go together really fast

Recently, I bought the Petals of My Heart quilt kit from Batiks Plus. I have to trace and cut and fuse each invidiual tiny piece. Then I got my catalog from Keepsake Quilting and they have the same kit with precut, fusible-backed applique shapes for a little more cost. If I had seen that kit first, I would have bought it because it saves a whole lot of time -- I have to get the light box out, then I ran out of fusible web, and then my back hurts from bending over the table. By the way, please stop sneaking around when buying stuff. If my husband used my card without telling me first, I might not get angry the first time, but it would fester over time and then there'd be a blow up.!!

Especially if it's a debit card, he needs to know how much is coming out of the account so he can manage it best. He's very nice to not get angry about it. Sounds like he's a keeper.

I would really like to do one of these, but have always wondered about a couple of things.

One is, what kind of fusible is used? Because most of the fusibles I have used make the fabric stiff. (Misty Fuse is the exception.) I really don't like stiff applique.

The other big question for me has always been, what kind of stitching do you do on the fusible applique? With our house, I know I would want to wash the quilt eventually (probably sooner rather than later), and I'm really unsure what the appliques will look like after washing.

I'd love to hear from someone who has actually done one of these quilts.

And how would you feel if he did that kind of thing to you???

I haven't done a fusible applique project yet, because I'm not an applique-type quilter, but I have had a REALLY good experience with one of John Flynn's laser-cut quilt kits.

I bought a Storm at Sea kit from him in a rainbow of batiks and it was wonderful to work with. I had fun organizing the design on my design board, the piecing went quickly and accurately and the result is really nice. I don't think I would have had the patience to put one together by myself.
