I hear people say to Fussy Cut on occassion and was wondering.....what does that mean?

If your fabric has a design on it, say for example pictures of dogs, you would cut out only the dog, or the part you want. That's fussy cutting.

cutting the fabric according to the particular area you want in your patch. this leaves some of the fabric as waste which is why some don't like this. you select only the design areas you do want.

For me it means to cut around a special part of a fabric design making sure I have enough fabric around the edges for the seam allowance. I have done this for applique and also to put a special area into a square or other shape to be part of a block or border. Those who make the wonderful landscape quilts do that all the time to get a certain affect to their "picture".
Hope that this has helped.

Ahhhh. Thanks. I have fussy cut things for quilts before, just didn't know that it was called fussy cutting. DUH!
