I am digging into my sewing room and trying to get more organized. So far I have found 3 containers of fabric that I am getting rid of, mostly Christmas. My longarm quilter is teaching kids to sew, so it's going to her along with any notions I don't need (like duplicates I have bought over the years). Hmmmmm

I have wanted to refold all my fabric for some time using the ruler method. I just got to that point today, and I can you, it is going to look great when I get it finished, maybe by next week sometime. What I am curious about is this: How do you sort your colors? The solids and tone on tone I don't have a problem with. But how do you do the prints? And do you keep the seasonal sorted by itself? Some of this may seem elementary to some, but I only want to do this once, so would like to do it right the first time.

Thanks for any suggestions you can make.

I keep all my seasonal together. The prints are tricky though, I usually go with the dominant color. Like I have a brown fabric with different pinks in it light to dark. At first I was going to put with brown, but then I stuck it with the pinks. LOL Figured that's the place I would end up looking for something in the pink family.

I sort my fabrics by the background color. I also have 2 shelfs that just for nolvlity prints.

Great idea, it will look great when done.

I put Christmas fabrics on their own shelf, backings and kits on their own shelves. Then sorted the other quilting fabrics by overall major color. Predominantly 'blue' prints went in the blue section and so on. Since I use a lot of blues, greens and browns... I found I needed two shelves for each of those. So I made one shelf 'light' value blues and the other 'dark' value blues. Helps when I'm digging through looking for values.
