I'll be there tomorrow. Can't wait! Hope you enjoy the show--my guess is you'll be brimming over with enthusiams and very humble about your own quilting skills! Every time I see a show I think "I am such an imposter!"

I had a wonderful time today, meeting a lot of wonderful people and seeing one beautiful quilt after another. It was also reassuring when I saw one of the blue ribbon winners with a block that was turned wrong; or rather the fabric was backwards on one of the small blocks. So many ideas went racing through my head that I had a hard time keeping up with my eyeballs. Yes, I did take pictures and will post sometime after Sunday and I get to go a couple more times.

One thing I did notice is that a lot of folks were missing the outer edges of the show. There were a few categories displayed in the outer lobby that people were walking right past without a glance, things like the wearable clothes, dolls, and young quilters. In all fairness I need to forgive them this transgression because I walked by the best in show several times before I became entranced. It’s funny also that one piece I went by always had a crowd around it, though it didn’t have a ribbon at all; a small traditionally pieced quilt, simple and attractive, enough to please anyone except the judges it seems. Ah well, lots of pretty pieces, great folks and yeah, me mixed in the bunch.

Another thing I noticed was the high prices. I didn’t buy much as it was all fairly expensive material, and I figured for the price I’d just soon wait to shop at a couple of local shops. Lots of jellyrolls yet only one Bargello in the show. Yeah, I appreciated the vendors being there and the merchandise, just not the prices.

Yay! Got to meet Sue and had a great time. Believe or not she's even cooler in person.

One thing though, I didn't know there were rules concerning posting pictures on the Internet (it does figure though), so I guess that's out. Actually there seems to be some conflicting information in the booklet. I plan to ask today and see if it's OK. Maybe just link the Glendale guild site when they get their pictures up.

You've received a lot of good suggestions. First, I usually try to do a quick first walk-through of both the quilts and the vendors. Then I stop, sit down, drink some water (I'm in Tucson) and then do another slow walk around - this time taking pictures of the quilts. I ALWAYS ask permission before I take pictures in the vendor areas. I usually walk through the vendor areas at least 3 times, and I'm amazed at how much I miss the first and second times! This year at the Tucson show, there was a woman who had great earrings made from antique buttons - some over 100 years old. I've had more compliments on these than any others I've ever bought! There's no rule that says you have to just buy stuff for quilts at quilt shows!
