Hi all,
I am going to the fabric store today to buy my fabric and thread etc. I am going to work with 3 colors of fabric red, yellow and blue or purple. Most of it will be red. What color thread do I use to piece the blocks (will be piecing by hand). I have red Gutterman 100% polyester thread. Can I use this? and what about when I piece the yellow and blue together do I use a different color or do I just use red throughout?? Thanks! Wow I am really going to start this project..... |
I usually try to match my thread to the fabric when doing handwork. If you find that your fabric is a busy pattern or has several colors, try using gray thread.
I usually use cotton or a cotton blend. HTH and good luck w/ your project, Julie |
Ducthgirl-I would buy a light gray,if you don't want to be changing colors.
I think you should use a cotton thread also. |
I use a light grey or eggshell to piece with. The lady at the quilt shop here said the reason to use cotton thread is that polyester is a stronger fiber than cotton and over time will cut your cotton fabric. I had (until then) used a cotton wrapped poly, but I switched to cotton. Good luck with your quilt. The colors sound awesome. Can't wait to see it!
