gorgeous large-print Kaffe Fassett

What do you all do with large-print fabrics? I have some gorgeous Kaffee Fassett-Phillip Jacobs fabric, but I don't know what to do with it. It is a beautiful large floral print and I just don't know if I can cut it up into smaller pieces. I thought of using it for a backing, but it is way too nice to use for a backing. I would probably have to look for some coordinating fabric for it also. Any ideas? Any patterns?

first of all i just quilted a one block quilt for a woman who found a huge floral print in hawaii and did not want to cut it up... she bordered it beautifully, picking up colors form the print and using tone on tones so they weren't too flat.... then we decided to quilt around the huge flowers and do small leafy vines in between them... we also followed small details inside the large flower centers...

but large florals make great borders, too, just pick up some of the colors and make normal blocks inside, 9 patches, or other simple geometric patterns... this is not the time to make complex stars or floral blocks because they will fight with the border....

I too bought some large print fabric that I fell in love with. I was going to use it as a reversible backing for my latest quilt but I love the fabric so much that I was having second doubts. I now have some alternate suggestions. Thank you.

Look at the Kaffe Fasset quilt books. He has a few out on the market, popular because of the same question you pose here... Love the fabric , but what to make?!

you might consider making a quilt or wall-hanging similar to this

then you can make the quilting enhance your fabric

Oh, QuiltnNan that is a wonderful idea.

I think a big block pattern like Shadowbox could showcase the nice fabrics. There is a pattern for the special Oriental fabrics that is for a panel with smaller blocks along one side and the bottom. That may work also.

KF fabrics with their multitude of colors and bright patterns would be perfect for a Blooming Nine Patch. You would have to cut some pieces small for the 9-patches but you'd also have some bigger plain squares that showcase the fabric.

I have his books and I would definitely make one of his quilts. That's why he designed the fabric !!
