I'm just new here...How do I sew various size blocks together that have points and not lose my points in my quarter seam allowances? Some of my points were fine in our Guild's BOM, but others were lost in seams and not crisply pointed.

Always leave 1/2" where the point is not a 1/4" - Rhonda has a tute on Star Points which will help you alot :)

Thanks for quick reply...however; does that mean I need to cut the pieces for the square that will have a point larger than instructions call for and then cut block to actual size? I'm still lost? When I cut them to measurements given, then sew together, the points are right at the edge of block on most of them. That means I lose them in my 1/4" seam. I guess I'm dense, are you saying I need to cut ALL the pieces for that particular patch 1/2" larger?

Sorry Susie - was outside doing yardwork :) here is the link for Rhonda's tute - http://www.quiltedparadise.com/n/995-owz.jsp
You will see what I mean about making the point 1/2" - I am not sure how you make your points - i sew like Rhonda - short cut - I really don't use templates. But I would think if you do I would cut the edge that is going to sewn to the right of the point a wee bit higher so that you will have the seam allowance you need to get the point a pinhead from the seam. |

Thank you. My sister sent it to me in an email many years ago - she knows I love fairies and elves....I had it reprod into an 8x10 at the local photoshop and printed on a textured Kodak paper. It hangs in my workshop to remind me that ANYTHING is possible :)
