Graduation Quilt Advice

So my cousin wants a quilt for a graduation gift. He is a HUGE Michigan fan so I am using this Michigan fabric: http://collegefabricstore.com/images/098MICHIGAN.jpg and a solid yellow 6 1/2 in square. The squares are nonnegotiable because he would like his friends/family to be able to sign it at his graduation party (plus they are already cut!) Any suggestions for a good guy friendly pattern with not too much yellow?

Maybe a basic nine patch with the UOM fabric and blue, then the solid yellow - all blocks set on point. With 6 1/2 " solid yellow square it will have a lot of yellow in the quilt.

The warm wishes pattern would probably work well for this. You would use that fabric for the solid squares and then do the pieced squares in a dark blue, yellow, dark blue. That would put several strips of yellow in the quilt that people could sign but it wouldn't be a majority color.

Add in a white square and it might calm the yellow. Look at the falling charms tutorial from missouri star quilt company. You can use 6 1/2 inch squares of yellow and the Michigan ones and do a white background it would look nice. You could also incorporate the 6 1/2 square into a star middle and do a star block alternating with a print block.
