Hi everyone I have a questions for all of you and would love some feed back. I have a old quilt that my Grandpa made when I was 16 I am now 46. This quilt has been used by all of my five children and is really worn beyond repair. There are holes all the way through in some spots. I know I should have just put it up but I didn't it has got great use. Well anyway I dont want to throw it out and was thinking on trying to keep what I could and put it into another quilt. There are alot of hst in there that are in wonderful shape yet and some of the flannel backing he used is good. What do you all think?

I can't answer your question, but I will be watching to see the answers. I have an old quilt that my late husbands mother hand made. It has big problems in a few spots, but I am guessing it as about 75 years old. People have told me not to repair it, but I would like to give it to his granddaughter, so I will be interested. How about trying to just duplicate it. Use the same pattern and colors. Maybe use the good parts of the old quilt for a pillow or a wall hanging that won't get any more use.

I had one that I had as a child and it was also falling apart. I got a Shadow box at Michaels, they come in several different sizes, and put my baby quilt in it and hung it on my wall. It still looks beautiful in there and safe. I put a piece of cardboard in to drape it over. Now my children and grandchildren will be able to enjoy it as well. A small card in the corner has all the info of who, when and where it was made. Wish I knew how to put pictures on here !!

my mom had one that her mother made, somehow got bleach spilled on it, she cut out a piece about 25X25 and gave it to my daughter for a doll quilt, the doll was only allowed to stay on the bed with it! now I have it displayed in my studio. perhaps you can cut out a good section and display it in a shadow box as suggested or get a doll rocker and drape it over the arm.

Get your hands on an old window, find a chunk that is in decent shape, and put it in the window. Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

I think this is a BEAUTIFUL way to display what is left of a very well loved quilt.
You could then find pieces that are still in good shape and use them in a new quilt if you wanted to.

Love the window thing. Would there be enough to get a patch for each of your kids out of the old quilt and then make a wall hanging or frame it or even add it to a lap quilt for each kid. Since the kids used it and remember it.?

I cut up an old baby quilt and made holiday ornaments out of it. They turned out cute.

I have also seen them reused as batting for a new quilt.
