Well, I did it;I bought myself the Bernina Aurora QE 440 and the Horn Quilter's Dream sewing cabinet. I am soooo excited!

I was hoping to sell my HQ-16 before I invested any more money into sewing machines, but Thursday 3/5 was my birthday and I bought what I have been wanting ever since I played at my sister's house (and she has the Bernina and Horn). I know many people think I'm crazy to go from a long arm machine to this little Bernina, but I am so much better at FQM than what I could do on the H-Q long arm.

I thought DH might pop a blood vessel because I made this purchase while my money is still tied up in the HQ-16, but he actually was very supportive. He knew how badly I've been wanting this Bernina and he said that it was better to buy it than to keep lowering my price on the
HQ-16, just because I was anxious to sell. Yeap, as far as hubbies go, he's a real keeper! So now the pressure is off;whenever the HQ sells, it sells. In the meantime, I'm thrilled to death with my new Bernina.
Happy Birthday to me!

Hi Dodie! Yes, I got the BSR. Good to know someone else who has it and loves it. My sister tried doing FMQ for YEARS ...... took classes, etc. but, until she got the Bernina w/ BSR she just couldn't get even stitches. Since she has had the BSR, you should see the wonderful FMQ she has managed to do. When you say that you do larger quilts, how large are you talking about? I'd appreciate any hints/words of wisdom you could share. Thanks, Nita

Dodie 03-11-2009 06:45 AM

I do as large as queen size but in sections as large as quarters or as small as blocks then put them together works great I also trace patterns on
press and seal using a ball point pen it sticks with no pinning just remove carefully and can do any design will be happy to help you in any way I can

I have a Quilter's Horn Cabinet too and Looooooooove it!! Although it has been in storage for almost 5 years, but I am hoping that will change soon. I hope to have a house very very soon!

Congrats on your new babies and a happy belated birthday!!!

peaceandjoy 03-11-2009 07:31 AM

Happy Birthday, a couple of days late. I know you will enjoy your new things immensely. Although I don't have a new Bernina, I have the 153 QE, and LOVE it! Can't say enough about the Bernina's. You got my dream set up & I'll look forward to seeing the wonderful things you make.

dlf0122quilting 03-11-2009 11:36 AM

I want both a hubby like that and a Bernina like that and a Horn cabinet. Let's see...is there enough room for the hubby to sleep in the cabinet while I sew?

anita211 03-11-2009 12:05 PM

Nita,

I have the Horn Deluxe Combo-Air Sewing Center and just love it. The drawers hold most stuff. There is a place on the right for a computer or serger. And the space is amazing! I love it! I would love to get a better machine, but will have to settle with my Brother CI-6000.

Happy birthday!!

Another Nita, but I am really and Anita, from Minnesota

shadowlane 03-11-2009 12:37 PM

it's always great to receive something that gives oneself pleasure, maybe you can email me what price you are requesting for the HQ16 maybe i can buy it and recive please

Nita 03-11-2009 01:16 PM

Shadowlane ~ I am asking $5500 for my HQ-16 Pro Frame Package with Stitch Regulator. I recently lowered my price from $6500 where I started out when I decided to sell. $5500 is my rock bottom price. I also have it listed on Craigs List. Would prefer to sell locally in which case buyer could pick up. Otherwise, out of town buyer needs to pay shipping costs. It is a steal at this price. Barely used. Great running condition. Comes w/ about $400 worth of extras.

allie 03-11-2009 01:18 PM

very nice happy late birthday

Nita 03-12-2009 05:09 AM

Thanks to everyone for your kind birthday wishes. I love being part of this Board. Reading these posts have made me feel like I celebrated my birthday with quilting friends scattered all over the map.
:) :-) :D

You want a "spare" HQ-16 machine ??? Interesting ...... Sorry, but it would be pointless for me to sell you just the machine, as I would then be stuck with the frame which would then be useless.

If you already have an HQ and are looking for another, this must mean you are very happy with the product. Even though I have not mastered the art of long arm quilting ...... and have lost interest in learning ...... I know this is a great machine for anyone who wants to do long arm quilting; It is worth every penny of the $5500 that I'm asking. I just need to sit tight until the right person comes along.

MarieC 03-13-2009 05:37 PM

Just out of curiosity, what are you asking for the HQ16?

Glad you had such an awesome birthday!
