i'm contemplating a couple of projects, but they have grommets involved. i've never done them. i've set eyelets in scrapbooking, but don't know if it's the same. i see the grommets at the store. looks like you could really mess up some nice work by doing it incorrectly. i also see that Making Memories makes a grommet tool/kit, but don't know if it can be used on fabric (it's in the scrapbooking section at the craft stores).

any input?

thanks so much!

I used eyelets and snaps on kids clothes years back...a small hammer and pliers came in handy along with the other thingy.........I never had a problem.........practice a little on different thicknesses

In the same notions section as the grommets, you should be able to find the setting tool. I've used them for awnings with no problem. Just be sure of your location before you commit to punching the hole.

There is a setting tool like Moonpi said, I've used them and had no problems, but you do need to make sure it's in the exact place you want it or you'll have a grommet where you don't want one... :)

i saw the tool with the squeeze handle, but it didn't look like it'd be big enough for the ones i need. i'll keep looking!

thanks ladies!

The scrap book grommets are not the same as you would want to use for cloth. The ones for paper are not sturdy enough. You can find the grommets for fabric and the plier tool used to crimp them in the fabric sections of stores and the smaller ones would work in the hardware section, too.
