I think someone is sneaking in fabric and adding it to my stash - I have been organizing it and wrapping it up on foam core boards - I don't think its ever going to end...Perhaps, fabric is like rabbits???? (at least thats my story and I am sticking to it).. :)

Mine keep multiplieng too.
|
I keep getting rid of fabric I won't use and I think it is snicking be home and hidding in my closet. I know I got rid of a couple pieces and then there it is back on the shelf.
|
I seem to have the same problem. I tried to reorganize a few months ago so that I could get the piles put away but now the piles are even bigger and I swear I haven't bought any fabs in months. :-) :-)
|
With the price getting higher and higher, I wish it would reproduce!
|
Ditto!! Thank goodness I have it, though, with the price going sky high I can make quite a few quilts without buying too much more fabric (there are always backgounds and fillers needed - LOL)
I went looking for the 1/2square triangle square-up ruler that I just bought and found a bag of fabric that I forgot I had. Time to clean the sewing room (yet again!!). |
It's a conspiracy all right! Lol
|
I thought you meant growing cotton! I plant several cotton plants in my yard planters and use the cotton for stuffing pin cushions.

Yep, bought a neat ring (like for ties) to organize my rulers on. Had been buying several and trying to keep up with what I had. Goodness...I have more than I thought!! Surely, I didn't buy ALL of these in the past few months!! And I know my fabric is reproducing cause I had to go buy another storage container!!!!
I was feeling really silly for buying so much fabric and then my sister came by yesterday and saw some of it. She ooohed and aaahed and just rub it and played with it. Guess I'm not so silly after all!! :) |
I'm in the same boat. I've only been acquiring a stash for about 5 years or so - mostly when I find a really good buy, but also when I see a fab that I've got to have. Some have specific projects in mind - some not.
This morning I went looking for something in my sewing room that I thought would be neat to FINALLY use on the landscape project I'm working on. 4 years ago at the IQS show in Chicago I bought a small bag of bits of green fabric embellishments - silks, fuzzies, ribbons - etc - and I wanted it NOW. It wasn't in the first place I thought it would be so I checked the second place - a storage box under my sewing table. I could not believe how much stacked fabric I had to move to get the box out. I also found fabric I completely forgot I had. There was a time a few years ago when I could remember where I got each piece of fabric ... not any more. My search was unsuccessful. No idea where this bag of bits has gone to. The good news is that I cleaned and sorted the first place I looked for it (a small 2 shelf unit) and now all my books are sorted and properly shelved :) A big project (when I'm done quilting the landscape) is to empty the closet completely and build shelves inside it so I can store fabric on boards standing up - then close the doors to keep dust and sun away. So ... as of now ... I'm on a fabric diet. |
That would explain my sewing room!
|
Oh! Thanks, I was wondering what was happening to my sewing room. Someone is coming in and stashing more and more fabric.
|
|
I have always said my fabric multiplies like rabbits!
i go into a shop and buy 2 pieces of fabric- take them home- cut them up and use them in a quilt- as i'm cleaning up= putting away for some reason i now have anywhere from 4-10 pieces of fabric (or more-some litters are huge!) to put away---it's vicious! and i've been at if for 45 years---have not found any (birth control) that works ;) every piece of fabric i purchase some how multiplies- just no control what so ever... |
At least it makes for a good story!
|
And it is a story that bears sticking to. I've been making samplers and stash quilt tops for a few years -- and my 'see through' containers with lids that WERE about 3/4 full are now full and running over. And not because I've been buying fabric - it just seems to multiply.

My girl fiend had her son bring six boxes down from the attic. She couldn't remember what was in them. You guessed it. ALL fabric. She said it was just like Christmas, mother's day and her birthday all rolled into one.
There were some real beauties in there and you wouldn't believe the price. There were also some really uglies. AND....there are still five boxes up there for next time. |

If only we could predict which one are the most fertile....I think my scraps need some family planning counseling.
|
If we could only figure out which fabrics are male and which were female, we could separate them and maybe we could stop them from multiplying. Or maybe fabric birth control....:-)

Hehehehehe!!! CUTE! |
I have tons of scraps that need to be in a quilt and now since I am retired I might be able to get on it. I am looking forward to revisiting all the fabrics I have used for clothes for my three girls (now 28 and 40, and 8). How time flies! I have vowed to start a scrap quilt as soon as my current projects are done (lol) So optimistic. I know my stash has multiplied several generations worth. It used to be a small trash bag and now it has morphed into 3 large ones. They've been busy :)
|
Congratulations! If that's the case, you'll never have to buy fabric again!!!

It's been raining, thundering and lightning the past couple of days and I was afraid to have my machine turned on so I decided to take a good long look at the fabric stored in baskets under my cutting table. It's been a while and I found fabric I forgot I had. I have 5 baskets sorted and organized with 7 to go!! What a job it's turning out to be !! No promises as to how long this will last either
Before-at least the top isn't that bad Pink basket-before Pink basket-after |

Hahahaha! so cute, ptquilts! |
This thread has me thinking... maybe what I have is not entirely a sewing room ... maybe part of it is a "Scrap Farm"... and yes there is plenty waiting for harvest.
|
Sooooo glad to hear others are having the same problem. Fabric rabbits!
|
I will gladly adopt your extra fabric for you. I promise to give it a loving home where it will get lots of fondling...lol

I spent two day wrapping fabric on core boards to put into a closet in my sewing room.I have two shelfs full.Im out of core boards and need to order more. Its the cutting of them I dont like. They are 24x36 so I get 9 pieces out f each one and they are 12in8 so I wrap several sm pieces of fabric on each one.Of course these are either pieces to go into same quilt or same colors. When i figure out how to send pictures on this sight I will.My husband took sliding doors of closet to put shelfs in for this. Then I had an extra shower curtain that I hung on opening to close it up, plus it gives my room color. The kits for quilts that I have I didnt put on core boards they are flat because they are lg quares and I dont want to fold them.Im not done with room but will show it later on.The saga goes on,stay tuned for rest.(lol)Dawn

I hadn't thought of the rabbit idea for my stash. thanks, that gives me another come back! :)

Well, no matter how big my stash I is, I wish mine WOULD grow! The fabric fairy has my permission and my invitation to visit here anytime she wants!!!
No matter what I'm working on at the moment--when I go to my stash, there is NEVER the right piece of material to complete it. And, of course, I'm always searching in the middle of the night so I can't go out and buy what I need. I have to admit, though, that much of my stash consists of Christmas prints and children's prints that I collected while I was still working and had a new grandbaby on the way. Oh, how I wish I had had the foresight to purchase complementary solids or blends at the same time. Now that I have retired and the grandbabies and great grandbabies are coming along at an increasing rate I find myself needing lots more material than I have or can afford to go out and buy. Oh well--I just have to be more creative and find ways to use what I do have until my next splurging visit to the fabric store. Can't go too often--it's a 2-hour trip and I don't seem to have much self-control when I get there. |
Cute!
