Gutermann Mara 100 - a Tex 30 polyester thread
Can anyone tell me if they have ever used this thread in quilting and on longarms?
The website Wawak says it is suitable for "outdoor wear". I had emailed them and they said it could be used for quilting and that the TEX is 40....but I have seen on internet that it is TEX 30. Would like to know before I purchase. Thanks AvanteQuilter:) |
I've never used it...but if its poly it should work as long as you use it in your bobbin also. Be sure to up your needle size with that heavy of a thread, imho.

Tex 30 is not the same as 30wt, so it may not be a thick thread.
Mara 70 is Tex 40; Mara 100 is Tex 30. So Mara 70 would be stronger. I found this thread (no pun intended!) that indicates Mara 70 is good for outdoor gear: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-...hread_id=47231 Also found this website that seems to list all the different Mara threads and their Tex numbers: https://www.guetermann.com/shop/view...-Mara-Clothing |
There was an interesting discussion on TEX a couple days ago:

I was incorrect, then, as I thought TEX referred to strength. Tex 40 would be a thicker thread (not necessarily stronger) than a Tex 30 thread. Found this explanation that helps too:

Oh fine. Just when I start thinking I might finally know everything I need to know about threads, you guys have to throw this "TEX" stuff into the pot.... and I'm back to being as dumb as a doorknob again.
