Half a quilt
I thought I had my solution to quilting my quilt in halves and then joining the two pieces together. It will work, just not on this quilt. I found this floral print for the backing that
perfectly matched the binding I have cut. I didn't think it through when I purchased the fabric because the obvious flower bunches need to match OPPPs....not going to work now. I can either change the backing, add blocks to the back or quilt it as one piece. I have decided to quilt it as a whole quilt but I will not be happy. After sweating and getting it all sandwiched today......I discovered one row is WRONG. I have left it for today because I am disgusted with myself and the quilt. |
Sorry you are having a hard time with it.
When I have a large print I don't want to to try match on the back, I add a strip of another color to separate them. If you don't have any extra of the binding fabric, a marble or other blender fabric usually goes with just about anything. |
Walk away, find and devour chocolate, and hit it again tomorrow :)

You can watch TV tonight while you are removing all those pins, LOL! Katier's idea sounds good....or if you want to work a little harder:shock: you could cut the backing into squares and add some sashing and have a reversible quilt. You will also have the opportunity to fix the "row" that was wrong........And you thought you were nearly done!

I feel your pain. I've, slowly but consistently worked on a baby monster quilt for my 1st great nephew. I finally got through all the problems I encountered (the first one I made--different colors, different person), I got through with NO problems. This one has been a mess. But, as I say, I fought through and Thursday I started on the last step: echo quilting around the monsters.
Things started going wrong fast. Now I have to rip out all the echo quilting; not an easy job. So...o....o, I thought I'd give it a rest and do a simple self binding receiving blanket. Wrong! I ripped out, measured again, cut again, sewed; well really, one fabric turned the wrong way (right side to wrong side!). Jeez. After 3 days of horrendous mistakes, I am NOT touching fabric today! This too shall pass. |
So sorry you are having a hard time with this quilt. Especially after you had figured out how to make a quilt by making it in half. Too bad it's not working on this one. But at least you learned that you have to be careful and make sure the pattern is the kind that will work for making it in two parts so it won't happen again. I agree that you should just put a piece of fabric between the two pieces of backing. I do that on purpose on my backings all the time. Try to jazz it up a little. I'd quit for today and watch the tube...Sunday has some good shows. Eat some ice cream and take it easy and forget about the quilt for the rest of the night. Think only happy thoughts!!! Good luck tomorrow. I bet you'll get it all straightened out then.
