I'm wanting to try hand quilting. What is a good batting to use?

Hobbs 80/20 is good.

I am using Thermore right now in a Dear Jane quilt. It's quilting very nicely as is almost like it's not there!

I use Warn and Natural cotton for everything, I bught some Mountain Mist 80/20 once that said it was for hand quilting and after I had basted it to a queen size top and started hand quilting it pulled through the fabric with every stitch. I was not a happy camper.

I have used white flannel when I make quilts for grandkids in FtL, FL. It is too hot for much batting. It works good. I make sure that I wash & dry it first to preshrink it.

I hand quilted everything for about 25 years & then I got arthritis in my hands. I machine quilt now but I'm still not pleased with the finished quilt.

Quilter's Dream (request weight) is also supposed to be very good for hand quilting. It is needlepunched, so is very stable.

I prefer the Hobbs 80/20, Quilters Dream Request, Legacy 80/20 or 100% cotton or Tuscany 100% cotton. Washable wool (Hobbs, Tuscany) also needles very easy and it is a pleasure to quilt it. Of course you can also use a low loft poly batting!

I don't like battings with a scrim for hand quilting, it is not so easy to quilt them and I can't reach the result I would like to have.

I have used Warm and Natural, Bamboo - which is like a dream to work with, and the latest one I tried was Dream Puff which is also lovely, the last two are very lightweight and very easy to quilt - didn't even have to use a thimble!!! I find the warm and natural heavy in a big quilt on my lap!!!!
