Hand Quilting Thread

I have been practicing my hand quilting in preparation of starting to hand quilt my grandmothers flower garden quilt top. My stitches are becoming very consistent. I did bite the bullet and purchased a sterling silver Roxanne thimble. I contacted a Roxanne representative and went to see her so she could custom fit my new thimble. It sure makes a difference with you have a great thimble for hand quilting.

I took your advise and tried wool batting. It quilts like a dream! Thanks to all of you who replied to my previous post.

Now I need advise on hand quilting thread. Which brand is best?

There are several good threads, Americana is one of them. You might also benefit from a thread conditioner like beeswax. It can help with tangles and shredding problems.

I think this is a matter of personal choice. I prefer YLI hand quilting thread (it's already coated), but sometimes I also use Coats Dual Duty, Gütermann and also King Tut by Superior Threads.
Americana is not available here in Germany but I would love to try it!

I also like YLI. I would like to try Treasure by Superior Threads also. Diedra McElroy helped with it.

I really enjoy using Gutterman's hand quilting thread.

I like YLI hand quilting thread. My only complaint is that it doesn't come in enough colors, LOL.

I use Americana and beeswax. Very strong thread and inexpensive. It also comes in several colors. It's about the only thing I buy at J's anymore.

A&E Mills, Inc. Mt. Holly, N.C. 28120
99cents a spool for 150 yards.
Cotton covered poly Glace finish.

I've tried them all, this is my pick. Never a tangle, no need for wax or conditioner. I promise you will love it!!!

When I use a quilting thread that doesn't have a coating, I use Thread Magic. Just draw the thread across the cube, threaded on the needle that is, and then gently run it through your index/thumb to soften. I learned about this wonderful product at an applique class.
