As I was wandering through some quilt magazines passed on from a quilty friend (Thanks Nancy!) I found an ad for a quilter's chalk line. Now they want 17.95 for the marker and then quilt chalk over and above that... But the ad does refer to "borrowing the idea from the hubbie's toolbox" Well yea....
For about 8 bucks you can buy a snap line thingie at the local hardware store and fill with quilter's chalk. It would make nice straight lines for quilting or lining up longarm quilting areas...Genius!

Harbor Freight has alot to offer the quilter these days!

But watch the kind of chalk you use. It's my understanding that dressmaker's chalk is a different formulation than the chalk used for construction snap lines. Maybe someone can clarify?

STOP....those chalks are NOT meant to go on your fabric....we tried that once in Alaska when we could not get the quilter's chalk to fill the pounce pad...it was horrible...
it gets on everything and sticks...and stains....

use the products that are formulated for fabric..even if they do cost a bit more..this is not like buying a HF blade because it is cheaper..this is going to ruin your quilt....

I know that my hubby's chalk line makes a bright blue mark that doesn't wash out. I'm guessing that quilter's chalk must be different. The tool itself is inexpensive and available at any hardware or home improvement store.

Jacquie in OK, please note I did say, USE QUILTER"S CHALK...You can buy the chalk lines EMPTY.... Of course we would not use that builder's chalk....

aaah....good thing...you scared me there for a minute or two...will the line be thin enough you think?

I can buy the chalk powder wholesale, so would like to try it other than in just the pounce pad! seams to me snapping a chalk line would be great for cross-hatching!
