I finished my first bow tucks tote yesterday and really like the style...but am thinking of making my next one a little smaller. I think I could figure it out (the sizes of the new rectangles) ... but it's nice if somebody else already did the work.

I do realize they sell a mini bow tucks pattern but since I purchased the original one I have all the instructions.

Thanks!

I just looked at mine and decided how much smaller I wanted it, I think I cut down 3" , not sure cause I'm at work but it'd reeeeeely easy.

Yes, thanks. That's the information I needed. I'll try multiplying my dimensions by .75.

These are the numbers I came up with. My purses did come out right, but I am not 100% confident in these numbers.

Fabric pieces:
Top portion, front and back 7 X 16
Bottom contrasting portion, front and back 4 1/4 X 16
Bag lining 10 3/4 X 16
Front pocket 5 1/4 X 5 1/2
Inside pockets for lining 10 X 26
Handle same as big purse 5in
Card board for bottom 5 X 12 1/2
Carboard cover--sorry, I don't know

Fusible fleese pieces:
Body and lining 10 3/4 X 15 1/2
Pockets for lining 4 1/2 X WOF
Handle same as big purse 1 1/8 in
Front pocket 4 X 5 (I think)

We love the smaller size. They make great gifts for young girls. Have fun, I can't wait to see what you make!

There are two sizes of this bag. You can get a pattern for a smaller one.

I wish I would have asked this question before I purchased the mini bow tucks pattern.
Thankyou 2Pedersens for your measurments, they are a bit smaller and I like this because I wanted to go even smaller than the mini pattern.

do you have a picture of this even smaller bow tuck? would love to make this smaller size...

I'm very glad to see this topic open up. I bought the large size bow tuck pattern too and then realized it was too big for me. Didn't want to buy another pattern to get the smaller version so had set it aside until I could get the dimensions worked out. Now, a sweet person has done it for me. LOL. Thanks a bunch.

I'm attempting to make this purse using the smaller size measurements posted about but I'm confused about the size of the outside pocket??? It would make the pocket larger than the regular pattern plus no dimensions for the front pocket lining which makes the trim, or am I missing something? Help! Help!

hperttula123 11-14-2011 07:54 AM

Casi, you can just use the size that is on the pattern for the pocket size.
I have made a few of these and you can alter all the sizes. I ended up getting rid of my bowtuck patterns because I don't even use them anymore(so I can't help you with original sizes). That's what I do for the bags I make now. I kept altering the pattern and came up with one of my own. I've also made mine without the pocket in the front, but I quilt all my fabric before hand on the longarm for more decoration.

Okay, now what about the line for the pocket to go onto the lining? Does that need to change?
