Has anyone else done this.

I was hand sewing a reverse applique block and when I had finished the centre white section picked it up to look at my handy work and blow. Blow blow. I had stitched one of the corners underneath . This is the finished block.

ckcowl 01-14-2013 03:05 AM

know one will know unless you tell them! it looks good from the picture---unless it's for a show to be judged no one is going to study it looking for mistakes. the good thing about (hand made) is it doesn't look as if some factory machine pumped it out along with a million just like it.
the Amish will turn a block upside down or do some other (error) on purpose if their quilt is looking too perfect---because only God creates perfection-and thinking about that....ever seen 2 perfectly exact leaves, or snowflakes, or trees, ..... your block is very nice!

Izy 01-14-2013 03:09 AM

I have to agree with Ckcowl...I can't see anything wrong with it, its gorgeous! :)

Silver Needle 01-14-2013 03:10 AM

I didn't notice it. Just don't point it out and very few other people will either.

rush88888 01-14-2013 03:20 AM

you would have to point out the mistake to me, too. btw for the amish to purposefully do something imperfect would not be right. i have heard that it only shows ones vanity, i think that is the word for it.

nycquilter 01-14-2013 04:55 AM

been there, done that. I was applique-ing while on the subway to work. I went to put the applique away and had sewn it to my skirt!

ArtsyOne 01-14-2013 05:22 AM

If you're talking about the bottom right, where it's more rounded than pointed, no one but a fellow reverse-appliquer would notice. And it took me a full five minutes of careful study.

Tartan 01-14-2013 06:28 AM

Your block is lovely! Unless you have already corrected it, I sure can't see anything wrong with it. Have I stitch something into my hand sewing? Yes, ME. I once stitched in a bit of my cotton shirt tail into the back of my hand stitching.

BellaBoo 01-14-2013 06:38 AM

I have no idea what you are talking about but your block looks great.

mighty 01-14-2013 07:49 AM

Looks great!!!!!

Minister 01-14-2013 09:21 AM

If you look for it you will see it. But its so pretty who would look for fault! Go on to the next block!

Sierra 01-14-2013 09:35 AM

Well, it's lucky I'm not with the quilt police because I can't find the problem either. After studying it for awhile I can see that it was not done by a factory die-cutter, but I love the visual "feel" of hand-made designs because they are so real, so warm in the way they come across. Yours is absolutely special.

Grama Lehr 01-14-2013 09:43 AM

I can't find any mistakes in your block, it looks lovely to me.

crafty pat 01-14-2013 09:51 AM

I could not find a mistake, it is lovely. I have caught things underneath and sewed them down many times. I am sure anyone who sews a lot has also, but that does not make you feel any better when it is your mistake does it?

QuiltingHaven 01-14-2013 09:57 AM

I sure wouldn't touch it. It is just beautiful. The only thing that would make you change it would be if you are entering it in a Quilt show...otherwise..I love your original concept of this square!!!!

Same here. And what does "blow" mean?

Greenheron 01-14-2013 10:08 AM

I am unable to tell you how many things have been sewn to my work......the worst is by machine.
By the way, please translate "blow, blow" for this West Virginia mountaineer.

Grandma Peg 01-14-2013 10:08 AM

Beautiful block, you do great work.

craftygal63 01-14-2013 10:27 AM

I STILL don't see it! Your block is beautiful.

oh munner 01-14-2013 01:57 PM

I really had to study that picture before I found the corner you were talking about. Once it's mixed with the other blocks, no one will ever notice one tiny little corner that's tucked under. I certainly wouldn't worry about it at all.

CoventryUK 01-14-2013 02:15 PM

Dottymo your block looks fine to me!! No quilt police here!!!

AnnieH 01-14-2013 02:19 PM

It looks great to me.

it is not noticeable enough to really worry about. You could easily disguise it with a touch of embroidery around the edge and no one would be any wiser.

Yes, we had a woman who was formerly Amish talk to our guild, and she said that stuff about the Amish making a "mistake" on purpose is not true. In the first place, if you do it on purpose, its not a mistake. Secondly, to assume that OUR perfection would even come near that of God's, and that we would have to mess up our "perfect" quilts so we don't embarrass God, is ludicrous.

solstice3 01-15-2013 06:15 AM

It looks great...other than you, who will know?

I don't see anything wrong, either, Bella!

pollyjvan9 01-15-2013 07:07 AM

I can't find anything wrong, did you correct it? Pretty Block.

stillclock 01-15-2013 07:09 AM

it took me quite some time to find the "mistake."

i think it looks fabulous!

I've also talked to Amish women about this, and you are correct, it is not true. It must be really frustrating to have that hoax constantly perpetrated.

MarleneC 01-15-2013 08:42 AM

Maybe if you marked where the mistake is we would see it but I see nothing wrong with it.

maviskw 01-15-2013 09:42 AM

The little extra tuck-under is a point at the top right of the inside white piece. It took me a long time to find it, and it's not that bad. It looks Great! and Beautiful!

MargeD 01-15-2013 12:33 PM

Well, I have to tell you that I don't see anything wrong with your appliqued piece. Granted I need new glasses and I'm developing cataracts, (my feeble attempt at humor) but it's beautiful. I don't think anyone else can see a flaw either. I'm a perfectionist myself, but there comes a time to just let it go. It's beautiful and I love your fabric.

BellaBoo 01-15-2013 12:39 PM

I'm glad it's official the Amish says it's not true. I never believed the Amish did that anyway but never met a Amish person to find out.

labtechkty 01-15-2013 01:50 PM

Well I guess we will just have to tar and feather you...NOT...looks beautiful to me..even after someone else pointed out the mistake...which by the way I really had to look for...

brenwalt 01-15-2013 02:09 PM

Don't worry about it. A person on a fast horse won't be able to even see it !!

sewdamncute 01-15-2013 06:16 PM

That block looks great....relax and enjoy!

Took me two minutes to find the problem----------after you told me. Don't bother with fixing it.
