Hi,
I have finally finished designing a rag memory quilt for my stepson's 50th birthday and want to start printing out the pictures. I am very much a newbie, so bear with me. I have fabric that you can print on and I also just bought Leslie Riley's Transfer Artist Paper. It's supposed to wash up very well after you iron it onto fabric. Since I am making a rag quilt, I like to rinse them at least two or three times to get the full "ragging" I possibly can. My question is this? Will the photos fade? I am going to print the photos in black and white to give it an antique feel. All input and advice is most welcome. Thank you all!

i've never heard of that product, do you print your photo to it then iron it onto the fabric?
i have not had much luck with doing pictures that way, they crack, i like to print right onto the fabric
i would do one picture and wash it a few times to see how it does before i do the whole quilt
let us know how it works

Thank you. I had planned on testing it first! I think I will do that tomorrow, I will let you know!

Why not rag quilt first and iron on pictures later?

I used to be able to print right onto the fabric with my Dell printer, but now that I have an HP printer the fabric gets jammed. What is your technique for doing this?

Some printers accept the fabric better. I use a Lexmark, and have had no problem.

I haven't heard of the product originally mentioned? How is it used? I have used C. Jenkins miracle fabric sheets (already treated, backed and ready to put through the printer) with good results.

You print directly on these sheets then iron them on to the fabric or wood or metal. It claims that when you iron it on fabric, you don't have the usual stiffness that you have with other transfers. I am going to try it this week and see. I will let you know!

I will be waiting to hear.

Are the C. Jenkins miracle fabric sheets available at Joann's or Staples?

I went on the internet to find them. I do not get to stores often enough to know if they are available at the big chain stores. If you want to try them, they are having a sale (e-mail came out yesterday). You can order a pkg of 30 sheets for 25% off - use coupon #1355 at checkout. I will try to post a link... Hope it works

Well I tested the Transfer Artist Paper...TERRIBLE! I then printed on T-shirt transfer paper, not bad. Looks like I will have to print on fabric then sew it. I am getting very frustrated with this whole process. Reisizing the photos about put me over the edge!!!!! Help!!!!!! I need encouragement. My stepsons Mom already said to just do a scrapbook. No, No, No! I want to make him a special rag quilt.

I think Bubble Jet Set is the best buy. I have a bottle that I have had for years. You treat your own fabric and put it through the printer with a piece of freezer paper ironed on the back of the paper. Works great, washes up well. Just follow the directions on the bottle exactly.

Bubble Jet Set is put out by C. Jenkins. It is what they treat their fabrics with, which makes the process easier for quilters. (rather than having to treat your own fabrics) Theirs are treated and backed, ready to put through the printer.
