I would like to purchase some of those sticky things to put on my rulers to prevent slippage. I have come across, plain clear fabric graber plastic dots, sandpaper dots and rubberized slipnots
Out of the 3 which do you think is better and where do I look to buy them. Thank you |
I love the sandpaper dots. They work great!
I use puffy paint mostly :)
I have the clear rubber one's and I don't think they help much. I'm thinking of going to the sandpaper kind
the sandpaper dots are the best!!!! those clear thick dots are just that.....thick......they make my rulers ''wobble''. buy at Joanns when they have a 50 per cent off sale. about $3., so you can use plenty on each ruler. the downside of the sandpaper dots.....you can't slide your ruler off your fabirc you have to lift it by the edge or get a suction cup handle

I apply the clear Cling Glad wrap on all of my rulers. On the small templates and rulers I use static cling you can get at any sign shop. You can see clearly and it doesn't raise the ruler off the fabric in places.

or find some Invisigrip. clear cling wrap sort of stuff on a roll. just cut to fit your ruler and place on the back.
I have had the most success with Invisi-grip. It is the clear vinyl film. I also had success with auto window tinting you can buy at Walmart or an auto parts store. It is basically the same thing, but cheaper.
I have heard others say to use Press 'n' Seal wrap. I think I will try that next time. All of the dots eventually fell off of my rulers. |
Try Invisigrip or Nexcare clear tape.
I like the sand paper dots. Purchased at the LQS.
sandpaper .. you can find adhesive sandpaper at any hardware store and cut them into any size you want.. would not reccommend length of ruler.. tiny squares will do..
or omnigrid Invisigrip.. more expensive but I like it alot.. this can be found at Joannes, hobby lobby, online at hancocks, joannes, pretty much anywhere they sell notions.. |
I've used the plastic grip dots and had my ruler move when I put my hand in the wrong place. I've used the sandpaper...and most recently used the Invisigrip..I have to say I was impressed. But it can be a bit pricey.
I used the little sandpaper dots and they work really great.
The Invisigrip has been a big help to me. I haven't tried anything else.
Invigrip works great for me
I like invisigrip... it lays flat and one roll covers a lot of rulers :D:D:D
I'm sold on the Nexcare tape. And it doubles as first aid tape, but I hope you'll never need it.

While we are on the subject...it seems that lately I prefer to use my 12.5
inch square ruler instead of the 6x12. It is heavier and doesn't move as much. You might want to give it a try...specially for those long strips. |
I went out to the garage and swiped a piece of coarse sand paper from DH. Took my trusty paper punch to it and glued a few dots onto my 6 x 24 ruler. Perfect!
I like the sandpaper dots.
Have you ever tried quilter's rule ruers they are no slip and I have been pleased with them for years. I think even JoAnns carries the no slip stuff or a hardware store.
Velcro, the sticky back kind, works very well to keep rulers from slipping. You can purchase the dots.
It's pretty dangerous to let a longarm ruler/template slip - easy to sew your hand to the quilt...and you can't reach the back to raise the needle either so you're stuck until someone comes home (which is why most of us keep a phone in our pocket when longarming!). So, it's common for LA'ers to use something on the templates/rulers. The velcro works very well. The only issue is that you cannot slide the ruler, which I also like to do when sewing fast - so some have it, and some don't. One of the longarmers has recommended the skateboarding non-slip tape you can buy - she says it works great...and is easy to swipe a piece if you have skateboarders :) I find it pricey to buy if you're just wanting it for rulers. Hope this helps some, at least in a pinch :) Debbie in Austin |
I got the Invisigrip at Joanns with a coupon.Haven't tried it yet......will have to look for it.Prob buried under UFOs :-)

I use the rougher side of velcro dots and they work like a dream. No slipping and they tend to be cheaper than some of the other alternatives I've seen at my LQS.
The sandpaper dots just didn'twork for me. Just left a residue when they came off. My best trick is to just walk my hand up the ruler as I cut.
I glued a few one-inch squares of the plastic waffle-type shelf covering on my ruler. It works well for me. Cheap too.
I bought sandpaper dots at the hardware store and love them.
I have used both the sandpaper dots and the clear plastic ones and i just didn't like them--made the ruler wobbly, and would grab onto the fabric when i was tryto move the ruler a little bit- now i have discovered Invisagrip and totally love it! Everyone in my bee uses it, also.
I made my own sand-paper dots, at the local HD or L's they sell sticky back sand paper for there sanders--I chose a low grit. I used stripes first to see if they would work...great next used dots (from a single hole punch) The dots dont take up so much room as the lines, but lines hold the fabric better... and at 2bucks a sheet, u can make as many as u need, just dont let the man see u do it... it drives them nuts, when u tamper with there stuff. (heehehehe)

I use the Rule Steady which is much easier on my left wrist. It really "does what it says on the tin" It's made in Australia but available both in UK and USA.
I have the sandpaper dots, they work really well!
I have used the sandpaper dots, but on my larger rulers (6 1/2 x 24) which I use to cut long strips/borders, it still slips! I guess I don't have enough on-but there were so many other suggestions here, I think I will buy Invisigrip at Joann's with a coupon. Don't know why I never thought of looking for someting else! The dots are fine on the smaller rulers. I have had them on for years and none have fallen off.
I have Invisigrip and I like it. I did two 6 x 24 rulers plus some of my smaller ones, and I still have some left over.
I like the sandpaper dots. Seem to work good for me, but that's all I've ever tried.

me too; but I also use the plastic dots when I don't want the fabric view obstructed; the plastic ones are not flat like the sandpaper, however. And I dislike the plastic sheet stuff (Invisgrip I think) - doesn't work for me |
I LIKE THE ROUND,PLASTIC OR RUBBER TYPE. THEY DO NOT SLIP. THE SAND PAPER DO NOT WORK FOR ME.
sandpaper...buy at Joann's
