Have you ever embellished with fabric a bath towel? I have 20, yup, 20 white large hand towels that I want to spruce up and need ideas!

I have a set of kitchen towels with Chickens embellished on them and have had them for 7 or 8 years and they have held up nicely.

I would imagine crochet is embellished! as is embroidery just no embroidery machine and my hand stuff well . lets just say I think I could sew fabric onto it easier. If I can decorate a few I can hand them out to the family on Christmas now that I have no projects currently started.. busy hands and all that.

My MIL had a hooded towel for my Ds and it is a large towel with a hand towel attached like a hood... Anyway, the gal who made it fussy cut out some images from fabric and satin stitched them along the ends of the towel. It's very cute! You could easily do that with a regular machine and even zig zag the cuts on!

I've taken pretty cotton fabric and made a stripe a few inches from the end of the towel.

I have done the edges in fabric and then did some small appliques that matched aprons I was giving for bridal and housewarming gifts.

I have sewn pre-decorative bands on (look in the sewing sections where novelties/ribbons are sold on the small bolts), some fancy beadwork on a set of "for looks only" hand towels, crocheted lace bands, ribbons with decoratvie stitches added onto them (the ribbons were washable) cute fabric cut into bands and sewn on, appliques of all kinds and appliqued monnograms. Your imagination can really run with these  I have even found or made twisted cords with tassels, gather the towel on the rod where the band is at the bottom and tie these on...it looks very elegant with the tassels hanging down. Just shorten the long ones to the right length.

Those extra strips of fabric that you have been saving, use them to create a border on the towel. I usually sew the fabric to cover the selvage (the tightly woven part about 3 inches from the end of the towel). Or put a colored border on the end of a towel. It is not necessary to decorate both ends of the towel, or use a different fabric on each end.
Just have fun.
