Yes it is hard to give them up with all the work we put into them. (the 2 I made for my grandmother I made for me she changes her decor like we change our underwear so one day soon it will come back to me she always sends home the gifts we give her!!)

Once I so fell in love with the Community Quilt that I was making that I just had to ask the committee if I could switch it with another from my collection. I sent them a larger quilt and they didn't care at all which quilt they had. It's still one of my favourites.

All the time. My quilts become my "babies" by the time they are done but becasue i give them to those less fortunate i can part with each one and move on to another. The feeling of giving is Priceless!

My problem is just the opposite. I think I'm making one for myself but by the time I'm about finished, someone I know really needs one.

I've had that happen too

I had to mail a quilt I just made almost te same day as I finished it for my sister, otherwise I would have kept it! Not many people on this coast got to see it!

I try not to have a destination for the quilt before I make it. As I work on it, I let it talk to me and tell me who it should be for ... me? or someone else?

Plus if I determine in advance, there's something about the pressure that builds when under the gun!

I made one for a friends 40th birthday with her kids hand prints, 4 of the houses she lived in, blocks that some of her friends wrote stuff in and tons more blocks that meant something to her and I really wanted to keep it...BUT it was too personal
