I just read about x-blocks in the new Quilter's World magazine, and am very intrigued. I'm just wondereing if any of you have tried them? What do you think? I am thinking of ordering one, but I am not sure of which size, etc. You can see them at www.quiltqueendesigns.com. Any help would be appreciated!

Looked it up on line and it does sound very interesting. Let us know if it works.

Okay, I went and looked and can't figure out what they are. Are they paper piecing? Or a template? I am sllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooowwwww :):):)

They are just a square ruler with three different angle markings on them. You make a 9-patch block, and then trim it using the x-block. Then your nine-patch is "off-kilter" (for want of a better way to explain).
Quilter's world magazine site has some examples of how you can use them in the April edition. I am intrigued, but want some feed-back.

Ah, that makes sense and now looking back at the photos, it looks like fun. Thank you for the explanation :):)

I have tried several of the x-Blocks. The bigger, the better, but I have to say, I wasn't impressed. I thought the accuracy of the measurements on her rulers was a little off. But it is a good idea, and you can work with it. the patterns come out pretty good. I guess you should try one and then get back to me. M

Hello! I just brought the ruler and I can't wait to get started! They seem really easy. I bought the 7.5 size square at a local quilt shop here in Sacramento. I will post when I get them finished!

Thanks to all for the replies. I have ordered one, the largest, and will let you know what I think. I should get it in a week or so - can't wait! Just have to see what I've got in my stash to give it a whirl.
