I am thinking about learning to quilt. Is the paper peicing the way to go when first starting? Any suggestiions. I have never quilted anything before. Just looking for a new hobby, and new friends.

Hello and welcome from Idaho. Everyone has their own individual preferences. I like to piece and don't really enjoy PP, but there are many, many people that just love to do it.

One of the first blocks I made was paper pieced.
There are different levels of blocks, I like it because it is easy to get precision.
Square in a square or pineapple blocks are a couple of good ones to get your feet wet.
If you have any questions feel free to ask here :D:D:D

I took a paper piecing class with two newbie quilters. They really struggled because of terminology. Since I have been quilting for a while it was much easier. It was really fun.

Welcome! I don't like paper piecing. I think I'd start with a simple patchwork (squares) or a 9 patch or 4 patch. Or better yet, a brick pattern-that way you don't have to worry about matching seams. I would avoid triangles for now. (I still avoid them-I'm a beginner too).

I think the best way to start is to take a beginner class. You get to try lots of different ways of doing things and then you can find your favorites! By the time you finish, you will have a completed quilt and plenty of knowledge to do your next one on your own!

Run, don't walk to your nearest quilt shop and take aa beginner class. So many things to learn and you should at least know the basics. It is so much fun and very addictive.

Hi from Australia!

My first quilt was all scrap squares, and I progressed from there. Paperpeicing I cant get my head around, tried it twice and failed twice. Cant do it to save my life.

Beginner classes are great, or if you have a friend who can shw you the basics, then let your imagination run wild!
