I just finished a 66 x 66 quilt with charm packs and strips. I want to add a 1-2 inch border and then wider borders at top and bottom, so I do not have a square quilt. Will it look odd without the same borders on all sides?? Help.

no rules about it. I have done it and don't see a problem

This is done a lot to make square or smaller quilts fit beds. And like cherrio said, no rules, just what YOU like.

It will look fine..Extra wide on the top and bottom, narrow on the sides look great...like everyone said - no rules...you're the boss :-)

Thanks..that was what I was hoping for--no police!!!

Just did it on one of mine....

Omg! You know what? You just helped me solve a problem I have with my carpenter star. It is square and I don't have quite enough fabric for the last big border. THANK YOU!!

It is done all the time. I try to add the top and bottom borders with patchwork or a band of applique that is compatiable with the square center. Perhaps a printed stripe. Just make it part of the overall design.
