I am trying my first attempt at applique. I'm using freezer paper to back the cat shapes and am hand stitching them to my background. Am I supposed to be using a hoop to keep the background material tight or can I just pin it to the background and stitch around it. What have you guys done? Thanks in advance for your help.javascript:emoticon(':lol:');

IMHO...its a personal preference....I have used a hoop for some and not for others.....its entirely up to you! whatever works!

I don't use a hoop. That's how my sister taught me. Who knows? I agree with Patsy. Whatever works easiest for you. :wink:

I have used a hoop but most I do freehand, meaning no hoop. Anything that may crease or mark up the piece I'm working on doesn't get attached. Just keeping the fabric taut between your fingers or hands if you are machine appliqueing is fine. It won't wrinkle up if you keep it steady.

You make the decisions on this whole quilting thing........don't let it intimidate you, YOU are in charge!!!

Happy Quilting,
Sharon
