I decided to try FMQ on a small practice quilt and I keep getting the lashes on the back! I tried adjusting the tension on the top of machine but that didn't help.Plus it seems to skip stitches on the top. It is a Brother Inovis 900D sewing/embroidery machine....any ideas oh fellow board members? Frustrated Jan

Also be sure that you aren't going too fast. I got eyelashes on swoopy lines - where I tend to move my hands quicker.

If you are getting the eyelashes on curves, you are going too fast around the curve. Just like in driving, you have to slow down for corners and curves.

Make sure your bobbin tension isn't too tight, as well, and that there isn't a lint buildup in the bobbin area. I use a longarm, but I get eyelashes when my bobbin tension is too tight - your top tension probably should not be at its highest setting.

Id change my needle

I think it will go away with practice. Once you get the speed of machine vs. hand speed down, it will help alot. At least, that was my experience. I rarely have eyelashes anymore.

With FMQ you need to find your "SWEET SPOT"! The balance of the movement of your quilt/hands and the speed of your needle. That is where practice, practice come in! As someone has already mentioned, slow down to take corners. For me, my needle is only going half speed, for others it might be faster. Each of us will have a different "Sweet Spot".

Good luck
