I have a baby lock sewing machine that i won last august in a quilt show, when it runs correctly it is a dream but when it does not it is painful. And of course the closes repair shop that will deal with the warranty is over 4 hours away. For whatever reason the machine will speed up for about 4 seconds and stop, speed up for 4 seconds and stop. It drives me crazy, does anyone have any suggestions.

What machine is it, I have the Espire, but have never had trouble with it

I have the BL Quest Plus which does the same thing. I will have to take it in in several weeks, Right now I have too many things going on.

I have the BL Grace and initially loved it. However, I now find that I constantly have trouble with the bobbin. I have gone back to my trusty old Singer to finish the quilt top I am working on. Am not sure if I could recommend the BL at this point.

I have no idea what's up with your machine, I have 3 Babylocks and have had no trouble with them at all, ever. I adore them!

Have you cleaned it, new needle, etc.? I have been taught to oil mine occasionally....not very often.....but think that could be an issue?

Can the dealer help you over the phone at all? Mine would help me. Could be something simple.

Sorry you are having issues......I'd buy nothing but my Babylocks.

Hi Bev-Thanks for your input re my Babylock problem. Yes, I have taken the bobbin area apart and cleaned it thoroughly. If I can find someone nearby, I am going to take it in to have it checked as when it is running properly, I absolutely love it. Guess I am a someone who believes if you buy a good product and take care of it as recommended, it should last for years and not give you any problems. Yours in quilting, Carol

The only thing I can think of is that the bobbin is low, mine does this when the bobbin is low, but mine also shows the screen when the bobbin is low

I had this same problem, sprayed a very small amount of contact cleaner on my finger and rubbed it on the end of the foot pedal (that which attaches to the sewing machine) - no more problems. Also, use a small air compressor to clear any dust/carpet fibers which could be building up in the foot pedal, most important was the contact cleaner.

I have a Baby Lock Quest that I purchased 2 years ago. During that time it has made many trips back to the dealer (during the warranty period) and many trips to a closer repair shop the second year. It was even sent back to the factory for repair once (but at my expense). The primary problem is with the stitch, perhaps tension. Right now it is back in the shop for the top thread looping on the bottom.
I am interested in hearing from anyone who has had problems and been able to get them resolved in some manner.

When I bought my Baby Lock Jane the shop told me that they do not make their machines but use other brands and put the Baby Lock name on them.
My Jane is a Brother machine.
So far it is a good machine with no problems.
