I just located my favorite scissors in a "wip" and they have "spots" (rust??) on them - whew project is fine. What can I use to clean them? Thanks for your help!

Have you tried just wiping them with a cloth? If they're beyond that, you could try Naval Jelly, but frankly if they rusted you might want to consider replacing them as they'll probably rust again.
|
thanks, tried wiping, no go, will try the naval jelly! Thank you

Whatever you use, make sure you cut a lot of paper toweling to soak up any oil before cutting fabric.
|
thanks will do!

If it's a small area and will not affect the actual cutting, try a little piece of steel wool or a Brillo pad.
|
I use the pot scrubbers-Brillo and wash and wipe with oil when clean.
|
I use brillo pads but do not use it directly on the cutting edge. Wipe lenghtwise of the flat blade.
You can also use plain old scouring powder and a cloth. |
I would use a fine steel wool, clean the spot with alcohol and then wipe with oil and then wipe again with a clean cloth
|
great ideas - thank you ladies!

Steel wool & oil works on tools like chisels & garden tools.
4XXXX doesn't scratch and cleans grime nicely. If the rust isn't too deep it should help. Then have them sharpened. |
