I was FMQ on a quilt that I've been working on for the past couple of weeks when it just went dead, nothing, like its not getting any power. I've checked the power hook ups they're fine. Do you guys know of anything else it could be?
I really can't afford a new machine right now just put all my money into a garage/ workshop. Do you think it can be fixed? This is the first time this has happened its sereval years old but hasn't been used much until the past year.
Oh I hope someone has good news for me, or I'll be giving up sewing for sereval months.
Thanks for your time and help.

Hi, what kind of machine do you have? I hope someone can help out here. Does the light still work on it or can you tell if it is getting any power to it? Did maybe your power outlet trip?

Where in VA do you live? I was born in Martinsville which in my mind is the SW part of Va.

Thanks and good luck,

Silly question, but did you remove the plug from the machine and the wall and then plug then both back in? Have you tried jiggling the cord where it goes into the foot pedal or the wall? Maybe it just needs a new cord.

Is it the type of cord that you can turn over in the outlet?

Have you tried a different outlet? Or tried plugging something else into the outlet to make sure the outlet still has power?

I know how distressing this can be. I hope you get it figured out soon.

Maybe the power cord. Friend's machine stopped, checked everything, the power cord was the problem. She used power cord from another machine like hers, that's how problem was found.

You checked your power, great! Did your light still come on? My old one used to just freeze up on occasion. It was the type that needed to be oiled on a regular basis. Also, I needed to replace the foot pedal twice. They seem to wear out frequently.

Did you check your breaker box?

Kappy 04-03-2011 01:50 PM

As they have mentioned, unplug your machine for a good 5 minutes, then plug it back in, maybe by pass your surge protector strip. Hope it works. I don't know why, but things never break when you have the money to fix em. LOL

jmabby 04-03-2011 01:52 PM

Mine did that too, but the light would work, but the machine died, could not be fixed. I hope this isn't the case with your machine.

After trying all of the other suggestions without it starting I would ask:

When was the last time you cleaned your machine? If it has been awhile you could have a large dust bunny clogging something inside.

There is a series of videos on sewing machine maintenance and repair at You Tube, just google the subject and you'll find the series.

Did the needle break? Did the thread bind up in the bobbin case area? Take out your sewing and start to search where the problem could be.

Someone once mentioned that their foot pedal got to hot and just stopped. It started again once it had a chance to cool down. If this may be the case you may need a new foot pedal.

Also, check out if your machine brand has a website. They may have a forum page that may have useful information. There may also be a group(s) at yahoo for your machine brand to join and get some assistance.

When you get it figured out what happend we'd like to have an update, so please share, even if it's something stupid as we all do stupid things.

My machine is a Sears Kenmore is was a high dollar machine back when I got it. My DH even took it apart looking to make sure there wasn't a wire shorting out.
It does not light up, DH going to take it by our LQS in the morning for me I sure hope it can be fixed. If I had had just 2 more hours my quilt would have been done...
Thanks again for your time and suggestions.
I will go and try a different power cord to see if that works if I can fine one thats close to it.

I cant help you. But I wanted to say good luck on getting it fixed. I dont have a long arm.. but my machine crapped out and I took it to my mom and we tore it all apart.. Luckily we got if fixed because I really could not afford a new one.

I hope it can be repaired for you.

So sorry to hear about your machine. I don't have any advice for you, but I'm sure someone on here can help. Good luck

Tamara 04-08-2011 08:13 AM

Well I took my machine to the LFS and they couldn't do anything for me, I have to take it back to Sears for them to send off. Wish me luck...

RedGarnet222 04-08-2011 08:23 AM

I would call sears and see if there is a limited warrenty on it. If the machine is a good one and it is only a few years old, there should be some help from them to fix it.

Tamara 04-09-2011 03:30 PM

I don't think so they looked and I had got it in 1994. I didn't use it for about 10 years just started useing it again about a year and half ago.

Try this: REPLACE the LIGTH BULB. My older machine ( a Brother) has the kind of wiring circuit ( or whatever the technical term may be, I'm not technical) which needs to go through the light bulb to connect, likr those Xmas lights when one bulb burns out none will work. Could yours be like that, too? Some of the older models do that. Ask me how I know, felt like an idiot calling the repair shop and the guy said just to replace the bulb.

Sears called yesterday and they can fixed by sewing machine for $126.60. they didn't say what was wrong with it ( the guy I talked to didn't know) but it will be fixed. I know 126.00 is alot but it would cost me a lot more to get a machine that was close to the one I have. Plus I don't like change.

Tamara 04-26-2011 04:36 PM

Will I got my machine back it had blown a fuse, but they did some other work on it totaling $126.60

Kappy 04-26-2011 06:16 PM

Ouch!!!

quiltpd 04-26-2011 06:57 PM

Did they say what else they fixed on your machine ? The price sure added up fast !
