Trying to do a QAYG last seam. The seam was off--not matching so I took it apart. In ripping the seam I cut a tiny hole right where the stitching will go when I put it back together. I cut a small piece of fabric and sprayed it with tacky glue. It didn't stick. Any suggestions how to fix this?

purplemem 02-26-2011 07:17 AM

applique a heart or a label over the hole.

nativetexan 02-26-2011 07:18 AM

yep, applique something over it. labels can go anywhere!!

I agree, but I'd put some fray check on it first, so it won't ravel on you.

MimiLinda 02-26-2011 07:21 AM

Be creative, if you did not sign your quilt, do a label and applique over the spot. If sig. is already done, why not do a quote that means something to you or the person who will receive the quilt. Happy quilting :D

grammy17 02-26-2011 07:23 AM

The hole is in the joining seam. I'll have to get some fray check. Looked at it yesterday and didn't pick it up.

Scissor Queen 02-26-2011 07:26 AM

You can use a little snip of a fusible on it. I use Wonder Under.

carolaug 02-26-2011 07:41 AM

hmmm...never heard of Fray check. Need to google that..I learn something new everyday here. it's on sale http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/p...PRODID=prd2992

Shelley 02-26-2011 08:12 AM

Try Bo-Nash. I've heard good things from a professional quilter's site. I bought some and THANK GOODNESS have not had to use it yet!

this is what i do

dslone 02-26-2011 08:25 AM

I did this while quilting in the ditch and so I put my label in the middle of the back it covered it and still looks nice.

NanaCsews2 02-26-2011 08:27 AM

Could you possibly put a small thin fabric over it-with fusible backing, iron it on, then place your quilt label near it? I have done this before, so don't fret too much! It does happen! I have been able to slip a thin iron on patch behind the backing, done a couple of really small sewing stitches using light weight thread and a very small needle, then put the quilt label near it. The hand stitching around the label went near the 'hole' and I could barely see that a teeny tiny mistake was done. Best of Luck!

I'll post a picture when I've got it put back together. At least the seams are lining up better. I've bled on it--got the blood out with cold water, cut the hole which I patched and sewn this part three times. Sure hope my GD appreciates it. Couldn't have done it with out the people on this board. Wouldn't have tackled it with out the things I've learned here. I love you all.

Oh bummers! It's on the front? Hmmm. You could still applique a heart or kitten or something cute over the spot.

ncsewer 02-26-2011 10:36 AM

OH MY, Grammy it's just beautiful. When they say blood, sweat and tears, you'll think of this!! If she doesn't like it, I'll send you my address. I'd take really good care of it!

ncsewer 02-26-2011 10:39 AM

If it's for GD how abour sprinkling a few appliqued hearts in several places. A special sign of your love for her. One of those would just happen to cover the little spot.?

Annaquilts 02-26-2011 10:40 AM

I would applique a tiny piece onto it from the same material and then leave it.

dunster 02-26-2011 10:44 AM

I'm no help with the repair, but it's a very pretty quilt.

ktmo815 02-27-2011 03:32 AM

Love your quilt - sorry I don't have any advice - but had to say how lovely your quilt is

quilterella 02-27-2011 03:49 AM

I've done that, and it is fixable. I took a small piece of fabric, same as the sashing or piece with the hole, matched the thread and put the small piece of fabric on the back and stitched over it a couple of times, using really small stitches. I was heartbroken when it happened, but, learned a valuable lesson... everything is fixable and you can't see the mended spot after all the quilting is done. And yes, the spot held up quite well after a couple of washings (2 by me and 1 by owner).

justlooking 02-27-2011 04:15 AM

I would also applique something over top. I have done the same thing. It is a bummer.

cbjlinda 02-27-2011 04:26 AM

I agree applique something over it. that is really popular now with quilts.

Scrap Happy 02-27-2011 04:33 AM

It's so pretty!! I would applique a heart (or something) over it. I had a similar experience about 20 years ago. I put a finished quilt top on the floor to look at it and one of our cats ran across it with her claws out. Ended up with 2 small claw marks on it so I appliqued hearts over them.

Applique is the best solution in my opinion.

That happened to me. I tucked a little piece of Stitch Witchery into the hole and ironed over it. Can't even see it anymore. Edie

Use a really good washable glue and a tiny patch if you need one, working from the inside if you can. Otherwise, I'm with the folks who say "Put the Label There!"

granky 02-27-2011 05:48 AM

I don't have an answer for the hole, but when you bleed on a quilt, use peroxide on a Q-tip...takes it right out!

Annasgrannie 02-27-2011 05:56 AM

Thank you--thank you. I have a snip but it is on the front of the quilt. Not being creative, I never thought of wonder under. Happen to have so much--another lesson learned.

I've got a little heart pattern that I have to use occasionally.

genieva 02-27-2011 06:04 AM

Put a small butterfly on it. And put another one somewhere else on the quilt.
I cut a hole in a baby crib sheet that I had and i put a flower and butterfly on it.

sherriequilts 02-27-2011 06:15 AM

If it really bothers you, bite the bullet and replace that particular piece. I have taken pieces out and replaced them on occasion. You can always hand stitch them back in using a ladder stitch. Kind of a pain in the patooty but worth it in the end. I have found adding patch material can add extra bulk, and besides I'd always know there was a boo-boo there. I feel your pain. Good luck and I hope whatever method you choose works well for you. :)

I've done this tooooo...Its a perfect spot for your label!

This is what I always do. Works great!

Better yet, put a small wad of white thread in your mouth, wet it good. Place it on the blood spot and it will disappear in a few minutes. This works the bestest if its YOUR blood

BeckiQuilts 02-27-2011 07:29 AM

The quilt is gorgeous! Lucky GD. This happened to me on the quilt I have on my frames right now. The backing actually split from the pressure. After wiping all my tears, I slipped a piece of stitch witchery along the tear, then ironed and did some extra stitching. The quilt is almost ready to come off the frame, and so far, everything is in place. Learned a lesson .....always check the strength of your backing.

RamblingRose 02-27-2011 07:36 AM

I would applique several butterflys randomly on the quilt , just make sure one covers your hole , I think the quilt is beautiful.

judy_68 02-27-2011 07:39 AM

Love the quilt. Good luck

I did the same "clip job" on the last quilt I made. After considering all the options, I just replaced the block. Took longer, hated doing it but when finished it was really something to be proud of.
