Help me with binding selection...
1 Attachment(s)
I have not yet quilted this, but it is next on my list, after I buy some fabric for the back. My current question is what should I use to bind this. I had planned on binding it in the pink fabric, but I don't have enough. In fact, I don't have enough of any of the fabric from the center. That means I could bind it in black or I could make a scrapy binding out of what I have left from the five center fabrics. I could even just use any two of the center fabrics, three, or four. I just don't have enough of any one to do the entire binding.
So, what would you do? Black or scrapy? (Those are fat cats in the black fabric....sort of hard to see in the picture.) Thanks for any suggestions. Dina |
Try taking it to LQS and audition several options. One will just make the quilt pop the others just won't do anything for it. That's my method.
Lay the scrappy out and put the top on to audition the scrappy. I think scrappy would be cute, but you need to see it before you decide.
I think scrappy would be good but as others have said you need to audition.
i like the look of the top the way it is. thus, i'd use black binding
I think scrappy!
I think I would try to get more turquoise and use that as binding. If you can. It looks good and stands out in it and I think it would really look dramatic as a binding.
Black would be my choice. Pretty quilt!
Black would be my choice also. It looks great the way it is now. I think scrappy would distract from the center. Black would finish the quilt off nicely.
I would choose black binding. Any other color would be distracting from your quilt design. I'll be curious to know what thread color you'll choose for quilting, though. Please post a pic when you're done!
I agree, black, I think anything else would detract.
Thanks for your help. I am leaning towards black. As to what thread I use to quilt it....I normally SID and am very happy with that. Basically that means my thread doesn't show. I am going to use a thicker batting this time...Quilters Dream Puff. I like the sound of it. My local quilt shop has ordered some for me and I will get it tomorrow. I should have the quilt finished soon and will post a picture for sure.
Again, thanks for all the good suggestions. Dina |
Very pretty quilt and color selection. My first choice for binding would be black, but if you want a color I would search for a stripe that has the turquoise and pink and cut the strips on the diagonal.
Of the choices you have mentioned, I think black would be the best option. One other possibility would be a black plaid cut on the bias (would be great if you could find one with the pink and turquoise with black)...I love plaid bindings!
Absolutely black -- the center of the quilt is striking 'as is'....if you used anything else you take away the focus from the quilt itself. Nice quilt!
I too vote scrappy or just pink and turquoise!
I would do scrappy using the pink, turquoise and grays. No cats.
I also vote for black binding.
I would use all the scraps you have left and piece them together for the binding. I have seen several quilts lately done that way and it really looks great. All the colors would match the quilt and what would you have done with the extra fabric anyway. Put them in a scrap pile? I'm all for piecing the back with them and using them in the binding.
Where is the quilt going? Will a color other than black be better in that room or home? Is it for you or someone else.
Personally, without knowing this I wouldn't be able to choose. However, I do like Silver Needle's suggestion. Go to your LQS first and see what hits your eye. It might even be another print that you hadn't noticed before. ali |
I'd use black.
If you had enough and wanted just a bit of difference, I would use the 3 black/grey fabrics from the center for a controlled scrappy binding.
I was in the same dilemma that you are with a tablerunner and went with a patchwork binding and it looks great.
Whatever you do you will end up with a pretty quilt. |
